1/16 WCP offroad 1/4 ton utility 4x4 troop vehicle

Post by Will01Capri »

So Catherine asked me for an allied 1/4 ton offroad vehiclein same scale as our other models.
So i set about making my own version of such a vehicle
Today was the first proper offroad test. Please ignore state of my back garden, the weather deterioated badly a few weeks ago when we were trying to level off the garden and rake it thru! So perfect extreme offroad terrain for model testing haha

Here is the test video
phpBB [video]

A couple of guys have already expressed alot of interest in the model and have asked to purchase one thru Cat.
Whilst that is happening i thought i would share some pictures aswell

I think it coped pretty admirably :)
Should be a fun model to play with. I have to get some more videos of this running with some large loads in tow.
Also i think for Catherine's Jeep we are going to upgrade and put slower motors in it for more torque. The downside is transmission whine, but we going to push it hard.

I can't wait to get cracking with the others to build for some of the lucky few.

They are real fun and with a low centre of gravity it is difficult to get into too much trouble,A bit like the Kubel in that regard
I just finished fitting a ragtop to my JJRC Q65 1/10 Jeep,
I have a word of warning to anyone planning to do the same, DO NOT fit windows into the front screen frame until after you fit the top.
The front two "Velcro" tabs have to be wrapped around the upper windscreen rail first, one on each side,
Apart from that the fit is a doddle,
And do fit a hook to the back after cutting off the plastic loop.
It makes towing trailers a lot easier :haha:
Get the hooks from http://www.greensmodels.co.uk
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

As for the details, the 20a esc can either fit under the driver seat or under the rear seat. There is switch cut out under the spare wheel mount. The Servo sits in behind radiator cowling, but sticks the horn out through the area behind the front grill and in front of the rad.
Dual motors sit underneath, these can be specified with different torque/speed, but the higher torque the slower and louder the gear whine becomes.

For most i think the leaf spring looking model will appeal, but the leaf springs even though are designed very thin, do not give much suspension movement, so they act more like dampers to take shock loads out of driving.
I will be working on a 4 link and shock absorber setup for those who want to have more suspension movement and more offroad ability.
But offroad allied vehicle is a present for my wife as she always asked me for one :)

Looks really smart, good job! Lime green kinda suits it ;)

I think you need to make the bonnet material thinner, very thick in your pictures.

Thinner might be possible, but then we run into strength issues and making it too thin means poorer quality.

A thinner bonnet would just be more likely to curl up in the sun - it already looks like something that I would not want to take to an outdoor show 8O

Can you not just thin the front edge? Only needs to be thinner the grill thickness? But that would mean making the grill slightly taller
