Krupp Protze L2 H 143

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

Krupp Protze L2 H 143

Post by Tigerfan »

Hello friends and community

Since the PaK is ready and I told you that there is a good reason for it, I would like to show you which model it is.

History and development

The three-axle wheeled vehicles of F. Krupp AG, unofficially designated as Krupp-Protze, were delivered to the Reichswehr or Wehrmacht under the designations L 2 H 43 (1933–1936) and L 2 H 143 (1937–1941). Approximately 7000 of the striking vehicles with the sloping bonnet were used in the Second World War as sports cars for light Pak or flak, team transporters and telecommunications / radio vehicles.

Compared to other military vehicles of the time, the construction was characterized by an unconventional technology: the central frame made of pressed U-profiles had a non-driven rigid axle at the front with a transverse leaf spring package, while the four rear wheels were individually suspended on double wishbones. They were suspended by a helical spring lying horizontally along the top on each side. The air-cooled Krupp four-cylinder boxer engine drove all four rear wheels via two limited slip differentials. The hydraulic brake acted on all six wheels; the handbrake on the gearbox and thus on both rear axles. The Krupp engine M 305 with a displacement of 3460 cm³ was also used in the Panzer I (version A).

Technical specifications

Length / width / height: 5.10 / 1.96 / 1.93 meters

Capacity: 3308 cm³ (M 305: 3460 cm³)
Power: 40 kW (55 hp) at 2500 rpm (L 2 H 43), 44 kW (60 hp) at 2500 rpm (L 2 H 143 with M 305 engine)
Power transmission: via four-speed manual transmission (ZF-Aphon), countershaft and two limited slip differentials on both rear axles
Turning circle: 14.5 m
Top speed: 70 km / h

This is the first prototype of the Krupp Protze

Now everything is looked at exactly where the small mistakes have crept in

Then everything is prepared for large series production

An outstanding model  I'm also greatly impressed by the street 'furnishings'. The cobblestones are as good as anything I've seen, for diorama roads.
