KV-1

Hey there , not much available on this one. So while browsing Axels for some add ons for my builds I came across the Kv-1 and in my wish to support the hobby shops I dropped an order. Looks like a straight forward build with some goodies of the ABER basic kit. Which is not overly sophisticated but adds some nice detail. As always a 1/35th scale kit for reference. Image

Thank you painless, maybe it's the few letters that makes finding such builds a bit difficult. I just found one for the Tamiya kv-1 on this site by flipping through the pages. If you could help me with some links that would be great.

Good luck with your build. I just built the KV-2 with that Aber PE kit and the Tamiya part goes together very smoothly. The PE kit is pretty fiddly. The saw has like 40 pieces alone and took me hours to build. There a few things I also opted for below. I may have gone a little overboard since it was my first Tamiya tank. :) Still need to finish a few details and paint though.

Transmission brace from ETO: https://etoarmor.com/?product=transmiss ... tamiya-kv1

"KV0021 Set of support rollers with painting stencil included". They were easier to mount bearings in: https://etoarmor.com/?product=set-of-su ... l-included

KV0026 Exhaust outlets: https://etoarmor.com/?product=kv0026

I also installed a full set of bearings in the road wheels and idlers.

Front idler brace in metal from Shapeways: https://www.shapeways.com/product/PGWFR ... arketplace

Stainless steel tracks (no longer available): https://www.dklmrc.com/product/sus_kvt

MK Modellbau Aerial for Russian 1:16 Scale RC Tank: https://www.forgebeartanks.com/store/p6 ... _Tank.html

KV fuel/oil cans although mine came unpainted from a different vendor I believe: https://mk-modellbau.de/main_bigware_34 ... -kv-series

I don't remember where I got the metal tow cables for a heavy tank. They are larger than the ones for the T-34/85.

Nice. I like that the Aber kit includes some nice parts without being too much. And you can always add boxes later on if you likem

Good morning, Soeren,
Here are a few threads for builds I was able to relocate. One of them was the long-ago inspiration for the Palace' paint job. ;o)

I just picked up the most comprehensive KV book I've ever seen. KV TECHNICAL HISTORY & VARIANTS by by Neil Stokes. It's a rivet counters dream. Not only does it have actual pictures of the real tanks, it has line drawings of every nut and bolt on the KV/SU-152 series tanks/TDs with explanations as to why and when the changes were made. It's on Amazon for $180 US, but I found it for $117 at Aberdeen Bookstore in Colorado. It's worth every penny for all of the time I've spent on the internet looking for detail pics. It describes welds, plate construction, external tanks, stowage types/locations, wheel types, armor modifications, turret types, and field mods just to name a few things. If you want one place to look for all your KV variant builds, this is the book. 560 pages of KV goodness... :)

Good Morning,
That is the book that I used ( kindly lended by our very own Sassgrunt ) to help build and detail the 'Palace' with. Aside from being incredibly useful, it is also a darn good read!
