Rso - Raupenschlepper Ost build.

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

Rso - Raupenschlepper Ost build.

Post by Model Builder 4 »

Afternoon all,

There's been a bit of chatter lately of Rso builds so I thought I would show my progress over the last couple of weeks of my own build. The cab is from vandra models but unfortunately this is the only part of the kit I used as the quality of the rest of the kit was ( let's just say poor ), they are a bit hit and miss as I've purchased other bits from them and they have been fine. The cargo bed I made from 2mm plywood and detailed it with styrene and various bits. Another thing that bugged me about the vandra kit was the chassis they used and the way the cab hangs over the front of the tracks, I remedied this by using parts from two different chassis so making it the right length. The cab also needed a bit of work and I had to extend the depth by about 12mm as it is way under scaled and you can not even fit a figure in there but as can be seen in the pics it is now fixed and a driver sits in there happily. Just completed making the canvas cargo cover and now working on some of the decoration and detail items. Hopefully won't be too long before I can put the camo on and dirty it up a bit with some weathering

Cheers, Lee. ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

I think mine came out a little on the large size (I blame the reference model :/ ) so it would be interesting to compare measurements when you get yours done

That cab looks very like the Scammel Scarab/Townsman three wheel truck,
Its unique coupling system allowed the driver to pick up and drop the trailer without leaving the cab.
All the service connections being made or broken automatically.
The MOD, British Railways and John Dickinson's Stationery were some of the users because they were simply the most maneuverable form of articulated vehicle that you could buy,
Ideal in city centres and warehouse complex's
The Scarab was a combination of wood and metal sheet, The Townsman was mainly fibreglass,
Construction & Use regulations finished them off in the late 60s.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Good info Jarndice, they are very manoeuvrable little vehicles, they were especially useful in the snow and mud on the Russian front
