New project Matilda 3/4

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

On the subject of sheet styrene I didn't like the styrene hull sides so I designed a chassis side that has the locating points for the locknuts when assembling all the moving bits. The only styrene in the build now is the chassis floor.

Then I got round to checking the panzer 4 sprockets and they were too big so I had to design a smaller sprocket to fit the panzer 4 tracks.

Just have to print it now and check it

Still lots to do on the suspension but I made a start on the hull design

That's a 12 hour print so I'll need to order more filament! :/

Progress on the upper hull

In the meantime I decided on desert cammo as the Matilda did it's best service at El Alamein and North Africa. I had a brief moment of lucidity and realised I needed to paint the suspension before assembly :haha:  :D so dark yellow base coat for starters.

What do you use to fill in the filament lines , or is it file smooth. Admire you work , but does the printing time not do you head in waiting for the part.

I think most people use mr surfacer, not sure what grade. Usually some sanding is required. Usually while I'm printing I'm designing the next bit.

The joys of doing a design in Openscad. I couldn't have got this far this quickly without a cad tool.

Patience, patience! Wait until I've finished it and made sure it all fits together. Anyway the suspension would need redesign for 1/6th scale in order to scale for hardware. :D :haha:
