Torro Full Metal 1:16 KingTiger Elevation and Recoil upgrade
Torro Full Metal 1:16 KingTiger Elevation and Recoil upgrade
I was not satisfied with the Torro (Taigen / IMEX) Full Metal 1:16 King Tiger Turret and Gun wobble. Resulting mainly from the wrong gun attachment pivot points, which is about 25mm out from the correct scale position.
Therefore I spend some time to fix this issue with a full metal Gun elevation and recoil upgrade.

Pure Art.
Period.
But even he who makes such great art needs to properly introduce him/herself and follow the rules.

1:16 was my scale. Until 'Konan' came into my life... an Armortek 1:6 Tiger 1!

Hello Marco Peter,
Please let me introduce myself. I am from Luxembourg.
This is my first metal and biggest Tank I own. The modification was a full out of the head build by trial and error method.
With kind regards
Gerard

A rock-solid, and bulletproof- looking example of engineering in miniature, Gerard. For a 'newbie', it's almost unprecedented.

Thank you for the motivating replies and comments
The main challenge and problems I encountered, was to develope an assembly which is small enough to fit through the turret bottom cover plate, but at the same time optain the gun's full range of operation up and down, with an at scale recoil possible at any angle position of the gun.

Hello Gerard and welcome. This is a masters class in tank engineering
Tanks alot....
Re: Torro Full Metal 1:16 KingTiger Elevation and Recoil upg
The upper hull is too weak to carry the weight of the metal turret (1,2kg) , because the turret is swinging back and forth when travelling over uneven terrain. This comes for the wall thickness of the upper hull which has only a wall thickness of about 1.0mm.
I have built an aluminum metal frame to strengthen the upper hull, and solve the undesired swinging issue.
The aluminum frame is fixed with 2 components glue to the upper hull.

Once again, a neatly conceived and executed solution There are some members here who were once bitten by the 'metal turret' bug, but then reverted to the plastic option. There are two reasons: (1)
it's easier to modify a plastic turret, and (2); the sheer weight of the metal turret can lead to torsional problems in the upper hull, and even the model itself- as you've discovered.
'Full metal' (Turret, Upper Hull and Lower Hull) offerings from the likes of Mato offer great rigidity; but also provide a real challenge for the motors, transmission, and e-controller- because of the added weight.
We mustn't forget the increase in postal charges, either...
