SdKfz 164 Nashorn by Alwyn Turner

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

On that basis, having invested money and a lot of time in building the radio station, it looks like I am inadvertently producing a command vehicle. Fortunately I am not modelling a specific vehicle.

Fortunately you are modeling a bloody fine example of a German TD that otherwise would be lost to the hobby in ANY guise......

Its one thing to model a traditional tank with a closed turret, quite another to do a TD with an exposed fighting compartment and all that entails........
M10/36 for example.

I assume soon there will be a "large corporate mainstream production" version of these based on current 'market research' :/

A little more done. The periscope and rear storage box are now ready.

If only the weather would improve a little, I could get on with spraying the body.

I've been a bit preoccupied by other things of late, but I haven't been totally idle so far as the Nashorn is concerned. I've had a go at finishing off the machine gun mounts with a universal bracket. This is what i came up with. It still needs painting of course. I am waiting for the epoxy to go off that's holding the vertical tube on the main mount. I'm not sure how old the stuff i'm using is. I'm a bit afraid it is not going to cure properly. I would have tried soldering but I fear the existing joints will come apart!

With the foul weather and a shortage of paint, the upper hull has been just sitting in my work room, clad in its red underwear while I fiddled around with various small detail. The arrival of the paint and a gap in the weather has at last enabled me to get a base coat of dunkelgelb on. It may not be much, but to me it has transformed it. It's starting to look like how I imagined.Still needs another coat in places, but it's a step in the right direction.

Next stage is to work on the 88.

Richard I know it's very early in the building phase but have you given any thought to a paint scheme camouflage pattern? Always curios to see this phase as it really puts the builders signature on the build IMHO. Kinda a personal touch.

I have some coloured drawings in the book that I bought. However I am tempted to create my own design, probably along the same pattern that I did on my Puma. Any suggestions will be given due consideration.

One that I've found interesting, even while building mine was the dunkelgelb base with green patches.

I've been through the book several times, looking at the camo patterns. To say they are many and varied is an understatement. Sadly, none of them spring out and make me say I must have that. There is one I sort of like so at the moment it is that or one straight from my imagination. When it's done, I will post it here for comment.

So far as the markings are concerned, they all seem to bear small crosses and simple black numbers. I shall be obliged if someone can point me in the right direction for either suitable quality decals or stencils.
