6 inch' BL 26cwt Howitzer

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

6 inch' BL 26cwt Howitzer

Post by wibblywobbly »

Thought I would have a go at a piece of British artillery, it will make a nice addition to the battlefield scenics. The plan is to make it with a recoil if possible. The Arduino Uno project is ideally suited to this as it can simply be plugged into a battery and will run all day unattended. This will allow me to hook it up to a pressure pad or light sensor so that when a tank comes within range it gets shot at. It will also have a full IR battle system attached. This means that it can be shot at and killed as well, complete with flashing hit led's.

Off to a good start. I like the idea of the light sensor - people will forget about that. The diorama should be no problem, struggling trying to find a gun crew though. I don't suppose you can design and 3D print people? ;D

Ever since I got my first printer I have searched high and low for printable 1/16 WW2 figures, to no avail. Just the legs, arms and torso would be good enough as there are plenty of sources for heads and faces. I can print Brit helmets etc.

Theoretically, a detailed 1/35 or 1/18 one would do, as it is easy to scale a model up or down. A 3D scanner would be good, I could build one after the gun is done?

If you can do it, I am quite happy to invest in this set, if you think they would be suitable.https://www.wonderlandmodels.com/produc ... -gun-crew/ or this https://www.wonderlandmodels.com/produc ... oCkIbw_wcB

or even both of them

If you can hang fire on buying them, when I have completed the gun, I'll look at doing a 3D scanner. If I can't get the scanner to work, I wouldn't be able to make use of the gun crew. All I really need is a turntable, decent lighting and a decent camera. It's all do-able...it's time as always. :eh:

There's a phone app to do this, but the quality may suffer. If you've decent stl editing tools then shouldn't be an issue.
