Taigen Early Tiger 1

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

I picked up a really good piece of advice on this forum - just have a go, if it goes wrong start again.
I found this on my first attempt at doing the tracks, took me two weeks to get in wrong, another 4 or 5 hours to take them back to original then another 2 weeks to get them to where I am now.

You are right, it is a hobby - or obsession! If you think of a technique or feature, then do it. If you don't you will go back and do it anyways.
Here's me talking like a veteran and it is my first attempt! What do I know!

I cannot stress enough the advice and support I have had by partaking in this forum.

Onwards and upwards

Pete

Hi Pete, As you are talking about tracks, now might be the time to ask how you intend keeping the sprocket retaining caps in place?
Some people use superglue and some use threadlock which is fine until you need to remove the cap to get the sprocket off, (Upgrading gearboxes for example)
I use "Neo-Dymion rare earth magnets", they come in any size but are very strong and come in all shapes including countersunk,
Simply superglue one on the inside of the sprocket cover and it will hold the cap to the gearbox output shaft sprocket retaining bolt through any conditions and yet with a decent set of thumb nails you can prize them free when you need too, I get mine from ---
www.first4magnets.com
The ones for the sprocket covers would be found on the specification box on the left just click on the box.
Shape Disc, Width 6mm, Thick 2mm, strength 0-05 kg,
a pack of 50 is £7.42 plus post at £1.45.
The other type I always have in my spares box are Countersunk, 10mm X 2mm with a 1.2kg pull and they come in packs of 10 at £5.10,
A long time ago I removed the Taigen quick release and replaced it with Magnets on my Tigers as well as all my Panzer 4s,
Trust me its the way forward.
I even use them to keep the doors shut on my Large scale aircraft, nothing has fallen off in flight YET!!!
Shaun.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Slight problem Shaun, they look like they've been glued in situ, either that or the 'mud' I have put on is holding them in place. I think I need to be a little more persuasive to see if I can get them off.

I have used magnets to hold the Feifel pipes on the air cleaners as I do not want to damage the Aber deck pipes.
I am also thinking magnets on the deck pipe end as well.

I like the idea of magnets instead of quick release and will definitely go for that.

Now the lower hull cosmetics are complete I can really think seriously about the deck and upper hull.
I will be asking for you help and advice not doubt.

Pete

They are about 9mm wide. I thought they were a bit big but when they are placed on the pipe brackets they look OK. I'll forward a photo later.

Upper hull well under way. Deck tools removed, filler where necessary! Although the more I do the less heavy handed I've become.
Took both antenna tubes off, will replace with a piece of brass tubing I have, not sure which side i goes on though? I think it must be RH (looking forward) as the the antenna holder is located there.

Just the sledge hammer to do, s tricky little so and so methinks. . . .

Would love to take he jack block off and make one out of wood, just a little apprehensive to start.
