Jagdpanther G2 base on Heng Long Hull

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

Jagdpanther G2 base on Heng Long Hull

Post by Soeren »

Hello all,

I am going to slowly build a Jagdpanther and ordered the upper hull from RCtank.de, as they offer the BB Version für only 20€ atm. I will have to see how the Barrel is, but I was thinking to add a full servo kit from Ludwigs site to make the gun fully "workable" lift and traverse and recoil. As I have the IBU 2 Pro already, it should be possible. Also, I would try to add the missing Details to the upper hull. In the end, there will be the addition of the lower hull.

Yesterday, I finally got the JP top. Well, for 20€ a top, that is not terribly inaccurate, etched bargrill covers and the metal barrel, plus all those small parts. I stripped its sides clean right away. From the book "Schwere Deutsche Jagdpanzer" I scanned all the line drawings and increased their size to nearly the modell scale to figure out dimensions of holders and some missing parts placement. From that I saw, that the Heng long upper is not terrible in sizings and positioning. I wonder why Tamiya IST asking 120€ for this part even without any parts. I will now order the casemate left positioned stowage box, the mechanism for the gun, another cleaning pod and maybe the battle department ventilation cover. The rest seems quite nice.
one more question, where do you get tiny hex headed screws or nuts? Aber only has those lookalikes.

Wo, that is a nice resource, thank you. Parts are ordered. I will see, how the gun traverse kit handles. It is Overall quite expensive.

My achievement as of today. Finally build in the gun mount. Had to shorten the chassis pins close to the Roof. Then I did 3 range finder pins from strippe M2 brass screws.

So, during the weekend I did a few things on this upper. Added details on the motor deck and added the stowage box on the back of the casemate. Also tried myself in doing weldlines. On the Weekend I was at the tank Museum in our area and saw that the welds, covered by paint, are very faint. In most models I saw until now, they are mucher overdone. I would put this into artistic freedom. :D
Also I am quite happy, my sloppines to come is the realistic style, unlike you perfectionists, most parts are almost Imperfect and uneven shaped and not welded on by milimeter geeks 8)

Then I shortened the mantlet and found it to look odd. It has too much concave curvature, the Pictures of original seem more like quadrangular funnels. So I added dome Apoxy Sculpt and also started modelling the small knob on the upper side. I will now have to shape it after it is solid.

Now the Pictures.
