Object 704 ?????? 704

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

Thanks for the pics, I have them all except the roof. I think I created a copy quite accurately. 8O

Yes, I know that the additional armour needs to be added. I need to wait until I have the lower hull delivered before I will add this.

I use Openscad, I have tried others, but for me this is the easiest to use. All CAD programs take a long time to learn, it has taken me over 2 years and I learn new ways of doing things every time I design a new model.

The lower hull arrived, so I assembled it just to make sure that all of the parts were there, and pulled off all of the KV1 parts that I won't need. The spare links that came with it were installed to get the track droop.

I spent 11 hours printing the rear deck, only to find that it wouldn't fit over the gearboxes, so I am now printing another which is taller, and will take 14 hours.

The mantlet and gun surround have been modified, as I never use elevation I am leaving that off, but would rather have traverse so I am trying to design something that works...which isn't that easy due to the citadel design.

The lower hull is pretty heavy, so it should crawl around nicely. The upper hull is all 3D printed so it is as light as a feather.

I sometimes feel guilty because instead of cutting up styrene and gluing it together, I am designing parts on a pc screen, loading them on to the printer...and going to bed. I wake up the next morning and all of the hard work is done for me. :S I have learnt how to design parts with all of the hatches and mouldings in one piece, so this whole build is very few parts. It saves print time, filament, and of course everything is perfectly positioned and aligned, with no gaps to infill, which makes everything nice and clean. The whole design is less than 400 lines of Openscad code, which is quite amazing really.

The rear deck reprinted, and clears the gearboxes. Just started the citadel, which is a 22 hour print.... 8O

Looks good. Did you use an infill to stabilise the shape during printing?
