HL Tiger 1 "Budget Build"

Post by whitecitadel »

I thought I would start a thread, then I would have something to look back on in years to come when I have still not finished? :haha:

Tyring to build something that drives ok, on a budget, with some realism and detailing thrown in without going crazy.

I already know about the HL issues, antenna tubes, cupola slits, need to remove the antenna mount at the back etc. Not sure how far I will go with the torrent storage bin, but I do want to try and return the 3rd lifting point missing on the HL turret at least.

First step will be chassis swap to Taigen and try to add bearings to hull for driveshafts.

The Tiger hole even deeper !!
I agree that the budget should include a Taigen lower as a base line.

Its worse, the more I look at that HL turrent, the more I think about a Taigen turret with the better storage bin, correct lifting points etc.

That's before I think about servo recoil and flash...

It's endless cycle:
- buy Heng Long - it's so cheap!
- find out that's pile of plastic junk
- buy Taigen metal wheels and tracks
- buy Taigen metal chassis
- buy Taigen hull
- buy Taigen turret
- spend overall more money than on new Taigen set
- oh look! Heng Long tank! It's so cheap!
- repeat

I've pretty much stopped buying complete tanks for these reasons. I do like that Toucan now sells their tanks minus electronics so you can lower the cost even further buy not buying stuff you don't need.

I agree. I bought a used Taigen Panzer III off eBay and tossed all electronics and now I’m waiting on all my replacement goodies.
