HL Jagdpanther rebirth

Post by palepainter »

After a few years hiatus from the hobby, I ran across a smoking deal on a few incomplete, but decent shape HengLong tanks. The Jagd I am working on will be getting the full treatment. Upgrading all suspension and drive train. Converting from BB to IR battler. I just happened to have a recoil unit that was brand new for it. Modified barrel and insert into the recoil unit.

Metal wheels in place. Waiting for driver and idler as well as metal track and 3:1 gear boxes. I have some older electronics around that I hope I can manage to get to work. Will be running 2.4 radio with it. 6 channel probably for a few bells and whistles to be added. All the infrared sighting will be created on my 3D printer.

This weekend has been mostly working on the welds and flame cut plates. Going through what is missing and what needs to be fabricated. Generally forming a plan of attack and research work. Should be a fun battler with out the rotational turret.

Pale.

I'll be watching this one with interest. I did the same thing a few years ago, started with a $109 HL JP, went nuts (Kept it airsoft, though), and here she is now.

Unfortunately you can't get the brass gearboxes anymore, because they work great and give me a scale top speed of about 23 mph, definitely close enough for the girls we go out with. @) :haha: :haha:

Let me know if I can help. If you're using a 6 channel you have at least V2 electronics for it? I have lots of parts for one of these, and I did a ton of videos on this one, including making a smoker that would do justice to those huge pipes. I didn't have the smoke turned on in the video above, but this is what it looks like

It now has an IBU2 in it, but before that went in I swapped the elevation onto the rotation channel, so I have up and down and don't have to cycle the gun all the way through. Hmmm, wait a minute, you said you're making a battler? The aforementioned "old electronics" must be Tamiya? That would be cool. Like I said, let me know if I can help with this one. 8) 8)
When FDR coined the phrase "The Arsenal of Democracy", he was talking about Detroit. Proud to live in the 2nd most violent city in America!!

I have a Mako board that’s a couple years old. Hoping I can get it to cooperate.

This eve I spent fabricating accessory tool box on back of upper hull. I also worked on the cast textures up front. Debating on zim or not at this point. I’m sharing some of the reference photos I have as well.

Waiting on some goodies from Across both ponds.

I’m not sure on that yet. Have considered using it as a port for the IR transmitter With flash in the barrel. Not certain if I can use the IR and flash both in barrel.

Depending on the local club rules, you could put the emitter in its tube at the end of the muzzle break and still have space behind for the flash to peek out - I'll see if I can find a worked example later.

Made some progress on some of the fabrication and tid bits. Modified one of the crew to man the MG. Working on supplemental armor and waiting on metal drivers and idlers. New Mato bearing motors are in. Additional outboard support bearings in place on drive axles.

PalePainter,
It is shaping up to be another Beauty indeed. The extra armor and stowage box are a treat!
