Re: My Tiger Tank Project
I think I would like to replace the electronics and get a new radio control unit. This is my only rc tank and I want to make it perform more realistically. I see rc tanks on You Tube that can really crawl along and make slow turns. Mine can be a bit jumpy and jerky. I’ve never had any rc stuff before so I need suggestions on replacement electronics with quality Tiger sounds and a better radio unit.
My model trains are all equipped with DCC decoders with 16bit sound quality and silky smooth motor control so I’m a bit spoiled. I just want my tank to operate as smoothly as possible.

Re: My Tiger Tank Project
Thank you very much for the awesome links! So much to think about.
Re: My Tiger Tank Project
I’m thinking TK 22 and a Spektrum radio controller. Any negatives to this setup?
Re: My Tiger Tank Project
Tonight I removed the front fenders. They were incorrect for my initial production Tiger attempt. I’ve seen a few photos of very early Tigers without any front or rear fenders and I really prefer the look. Very mean appearance from the front view. If I ever decide to add photo etched early fenders I’ll be one step ahead by having already removed the molded on fenders. This project is slowly moving ahead. Here’s a couple of pics.

Re: My Tiger Tank Project
Hi, I love the idea of an early Tiger 1,
I found a problem with my similar project,
The main gun mantlet gunners binocular sight is flat not raised as it is in the later "early" tiger 1s,
The problem comes when you try filing it flat,
The metal/or Plastic Mantlet is too thin and you have to be prepared to use filler to fix the inevitable gap,
Tamiya make a proper patterned Early Main gun mantlet which is for the Tamiya "Static" Early Tiger 1,
If you can find the sprue with it on that would be the way forward.
There were lots of detail differences in and on the early Tiger 1 so your Tank will be aided by you doing some research and of course picking the minds of Forum members.
Good luck I shall be watching your progress with great interest.

I think I am about to upset someone
Re: My Tiger Tank Project
Thanks for the info, jarndice! I’ll have to ponder the chore of reducing the binocular raised area. One of my least favorite modeling chores is removing large amounts of plastic and using body putty to smooth the work area. This project has become a labor of love what with all the nuances of initial production Tiger tanks. I may not be up to all the tasks involved but I’m going to make it as close as I have the skills to do. For example the HL elevation unit protrudes from the rear of the turret so I decided not to add the side storage pods.
I do have a question for veteran Tiger modelers. I want to model one of the tow cables hooked up to the front tow shackle (drivers’ side) and draped over the rear end but how does one do that and still be able to remove the upper hull to remove the battery for charging?
