Well, the tank is fully functioning, didn't help that the instructions were in broken English but not moaning...anymore ;D . Heng Long is the go to manufacturer then?

Depends how fat your wallet is ;)

For me, I like heng long, but they are at the cheapest end for a reason.

The taigen and other makes metal hulls are an improvement on plastic ones, but come at an extra price.

I rather like the idea of upgrading heng longs to make them better.

And then there is tamiya, enough said. . . .

Adding to what Mick has written, Tamiya are still the bees knees and bank balance breakers; Taigen are the upmarket version of Heng Long (an offshoot from Henglong, originally); then- Heng long probably the biggest
player in the field. Their products were little more than toys to begin with (and described as such); but now they have raised their standards (model accuracy, electronics, extras and so on..) with recent models like the T90, for example, to such an extent that they are now serious competitors for Tamiya and Taigen. HL reliability (lack of) now appears to be a thing of the past as well.
There are other specialists in the 1/16 Tank market; but these three are the leaders.
