His & Hers Late (now mid) & Early Tiger Builds

This section is to 'show and tell' about any customizing or re-vamping you have done (or are doing) to a Heng Long tank.

Hi Guys
Rather than running two separate builds for our newly acquired project Henglong Tigers, i thought i would just run one post.
Very Early Henglong Tiger 27mhz basic model which someone has put a little work into to make look a little weathered etc & a later Henglong Tiger which is a complete basket case requiring total resto, but i am going to continue the previous owners idea to convert to a late model Tiger.

The late model as had Zimmerit & some nice metal features purchased like hatches, cupola, tools and other stuff etc like metal gearboxes.
This will be mine, so the upper & lower hull will be strengthened but remain plastic HL. Going to convert this to.mid Tiger 334 I think ;)
The running wheels and tracks etc will all be metal. Need some ideas, but seen long sticky threads which i can copy for inspiration.
Colour wise this will go full camouflage and i might try to use an airbrush for the first time!!!!
Is there a way to get late model wheels for a HL chassis?
I intend to fit smoke launchers & try and get a thick smoke system for these, but also run a smoke system for exhausts.
I do not intend to use any Std HL electronics here so i am going to get it all working off std 2.4ghz Flight controller and Rx. Tlk e out of it, if not wise ;)

Unfortunately i got a few minutes out of the working Early model before the driveshafts plastic gear started to slip. Basically the gear has split meaning the spline cannot transfer drive.
A short temp fix is glue with epoxy, but now getting metal box on order. Tracks will stay nylon however, this is a cheap running model for my wife to use.
I have noticed the suspension arms are very fragile, so i may also purchase a metal set and fit some hull reinforcements also.

For both it would be nice to have sound, but that can wait.
I have alot of projects, so don't hold your breath i work slowly haha, some pictures to start

Yes i am a lucky boy. She is also into cars and racing aswell so does come in the garage to help out aswell. If she didn't i am convinced i would be divorced haha. Our kids are also showing interest but too young to be helpful haha.
I did say i would buy her one a few years ago, better late than never.
Now looking raising order from tankarmy for a load of upgrade parts which dont appear available in UK e.g. upgrade metal drive shafts

And now I have just bought another Tiger 1.
Oh dear!
This one has a non working bb turret so I am thinkin that I either break for parts or I turn into Bergetiger.
I have too many tanks now. I did say I would stop haha

Purchase a turret elevation and recoil servo setup for it and add the led flash

You appear to be trying to change an Early Model Tiger 1 into a late model,
I confess to being surprised that you cannot find British or European dealers and are going to Australia for your needs.

http://www.forgebeartanks.com
have for sale Taigen Tiger 1 late model metal wheels for £28.99,
Taigen Late model Tiger 1 Metal Tracks for £42.99.

http://www.heng-long-panzer.de
If when you get to this site you click on the German flag the Union flag will drop down,
Click on that and you will get an English translation.
Have late model Cupolas for Tiger 1s for 16.95 Euros,

And if you go to ----
http://www.rctank.de
Click on Accessories and you will find a treasure trove of Tiger 1 goodies.
You are guaranteed good service from each of these dealers,
Many of us have been satisfied customers for many years.
Shaun.

Thanks Shaun. I will check out the links.
I am using Tank Army for some items and buying faulty or broken parts from them to help with some builds.

Here is the picture of another Tiger 1 I have acquired. The cupola was broken so I cut it off and have another early hatch from my other Tiger to replace it in correct orientation.
I am also going to sort a few niggly issues out on the tank and sell on as a project I think.

Good thing everything now works on this tank so it would make a good starter base. Too nice to cut up unfortunately lol.
Shame cause I was going to cut up a couple Tiger bases to make a Moser Karl.

Ok so no looking at buying the first of many upgrade parts finally.
I was going to get alot of stuff from Tank Army but yes after more searching alot of UK suppliers.

For the early Tiger for my wife i am going to fit metal driveshaft gears with the plastic gearboxes and see how it goes. They are cheap. I also now have alot of plastic tracks and idlers etc to keep it running.

I am however going to fit a track tensioner, but which one! There are loads to choose!

As for metal tracks and idlers and sprockets for the Late Tiger build, do Mato items fit?
The late roadwheels seem to be a bit of a pain as they will not fit the HL base.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of a thread to read up on metal tracks and idlers etc for a Late Tiger HL build.

Decided for some strange reason I wanted to have the rear hatches to open on my Tiger....

Hard bit to get hinges working and panel gaps to work. Then have to make the hook clamps!

Also decided driver port had to be opened. Yes this meant peeling back the zimmerit!

I have also cut back the front single headlight so I can fit the slit headlamp cover.

Trial fitted metal tools & also bought alot of steel cable to make up tow ropes.

Will I'm really impressed with your build and can't wait to see more. I like the idea of the metal pins for the flaps. You are progressing really well

Going along strong.
When you mention moving stowage box, do you mean the one on the turret rear ?

Question. I am going to cut aerial off my Tiger mid production as there should only be 1. However I am going to move the current aerial and fit the upgrade aerial where it should go. So does this really mean in effect I should cut off both aerials?
Can't seem find answer on that one!
