Panzer III DAK easy paint

Post by Rubensilva666 »

Hi
This is my attempt to convert from a normal Panzer III HL to a DAK. Right now I only have the Upper Hull, but soon I will receive the rest I bought on Ebay. The main modesty will be in color, since I have a reduced budget.
For primer i used a cheap wilko all surface.
tamiya yellow sand for main color:

Using some dark grey i manage to do some wethering:

Some more Tamiya master rust orange...oil stain and thats it for now:

Almost forget... the driver. Just an idea:

ÑOw, i just have one or two questions. I have bought a Tamiya Clear coat. My question is what do i use to thinner if it is necessary. Thank you.

Where are you located? In the US I use TESTORS / AZTEK acrylic thinner. It works great with the Tamiya paints. Just remember to not put any left over thinned paint back into the paint bottle. It will ruin the paint. I'm not sure about other thinners, but I learned this one the hard way. :{

HI Capt.
Im in Portsmouth.
Its my thirst time painting a full model the right way, so many questions!!
I`m thinking of using a Flat Clear xf-86. Usually i use IPA to thinner my Tamiya paints, but since this is a " varnish" im not sure if it is the right call.
Any advice welcom :)

I looked up that paint number and it's showing as an acrylic paint, so you should be able to use any acrylic thinner. Tamiya is recommending X-20A to thin it for airbrushing. I would suggest you try a small amount of paint using your regular acrylic thinner. Make sure it doesn't clump up or anything bad. If that looks good, try spraying a bit on a scrap piece and see what you get. Make sure it dries good, not sticky, anything like that.

Good luck with it and let us know how it turns out!

Nice one Ruben, the wear and tear came out great. It really looks like a war-weary veteran that's taken out its fair share of Matildas.

The beautiful paintjob makes the bulbous headlights stick out a bit, though. If you're not keen on replacing them yet, you can always file down the top of the LED bulb; the end few millimetres are empty plastic.

Thank you to "Raminator" for the advice to change the front lights. Also change the mg for a led one( forgebear) and and connected a opital cable for the turrent mg.
Wanna to change the antenna for side, but still want to come up with an idea for that.

Im very happy with the finish result.
Hope you guys like it.
Thanks

I'm loving it. I've got a Pz III I am planning on doing up the same way. You've definitely given me some ideas!
