Pair of Kittys

Post by pebblemonkey73 »

My on going progess, Henshell turreted KTs.
Tamiya vintage King tiger that I'm building as a static display piece, and a early generation Taigen King tiger metal turret and hull parts.

Tamiya KT has had a full ATAK Zimmeritt set applied, metal tools and components from a Torro set glued on, Schumo Turret vent and other Schumo parts on order. Gun Barrel fixed thanks to Rad.

Taigen KT is a secondhand one that i'm restoring and repairing. Turret and upper hull is complete and primered, lower hull needs some work , weld seams and other details.

Mr Pebblemonkey very nice

What paint did you use to get the primer red oxide on the KT?

Sorry I'm in the red oxide mood these days and am an avid king tiger fan

Hi Carl,
I use "Halfords" Acrylic red oxide primer as it's nearly historically accurate, its finer and thinner coats than their grey primer, so you don't lose fine detail or surface texture. I always primer acrylic paints on these multi media kits .
If you're planning to build a tank that's come straight off the production line you could use the primer coat- white painted engineer chalked instructions, but seal with varnish as if sanded or scratched it turns pink in colour.

Yes Carl, It has a clutch gearbox system in it, no speed controller or receiver though, and I have vague knowledge of electronics, I know it hasn't got the same mounts in the hull or in the turret for a "Full option" 2017 vehicle so having to leave it as is, hense the Taigen IR vehicle.

If you are familiar with basic electronics like me anything is possible...

You could build a nice runner with sound etc... Utilizing the original clutch style gearbox.

Ian at Tankbear has done it with an Ibu2 and Maxmekker is working on it with a Clark tk60 board.

These guys are aces when it comes to helping people who are challenged with electronics like meImage

Mine is from 1981 Image

Either way your KT's are very nice

Thanks Tiggr,
that's food food for thought, my electronics are very limited which Is why I go for the Taigen "Plug and Play" set ups as once you've done one you've done them all. I'm okay at soldering, but this looks a big job for the tamiya tiger 2. I had a look inside It has one servo but none of the linkages , turret traverse and hi density flash unit. so will have to just keep as a display item in my cabinet and keep the taigen as a runner.

Matt have fun with them! I wanted to show you what was possible with the latest electrical bits and the vintage style tanks.

Do you have any paint scheme camouflage picked out yet?
