TIGER 1 Silk Purse to Sow,s Ear

Post by Spartan tracks »

Well it's time to have a go at the real stuff ,I've been on the forum nearly a year and i think my painting skills are getting there, But the real modelling starts with alterations to the model its self, So I thought It was time to have ago , I was reading HERMANS Jagdtiger post earlier and he quoted a fraise ,YOU CANT MAKE A SILK PURSE OUT OF A SOWS EAR, so that got me thinking what about making "A SILK PURSE INTO A SOW,S EAR". I've taken one of my shelf queen TIGER 1's that in time I was going to re paint anyway, So iv,e researched some of the basic things wrong with the Henglong Tiger 1 and made a start, so I've opened the deck hatches ,and removed all the side fenders and fronts ( fenders only removed for the look I want), and removed the drivers closed viewer, Then I filled and sanded but more fine sanded needed to deck hatches before new metal ones can be fitted, so after day 1 (Yesterday) this is where I'm at.
Ps what I mean by sow,s ear see bottom pic .

After I trimmed and filled around the deck hatches, I then realised I hadn't trimmed of and filled where the headlights are.

Erm...... Nowt wrong with the original to me
I have a HL T1 myself and for the money it's a great bit of kit.

I have learnt from experience that the maxim "buy it cheap, buy it twice" is generally true.
If you can afford it, buy the silk purse in the first instance.

That said, the modelling skills of you guys is excellent and I look forward to seeing you handiwork.

Good afternoon,
So much can be done with the HL Tiger 1 and parts are plentiful and cheap ( Unless you decide to metal it out ). I have one of the original HL Tigers ( the ones that ran at super speed and had blazing red headlights ) and have been debating for years whether or not to upgrade it. I'm planning on building a dream Tiger from a Tamiya model but it would be nice to have another Tiger to roll out beside that one. Tigers are like Lays potato chips, you can't have just one. *chuckles* Following along to see how it goes, Spartan.
regards,
Painless

I thought I'd have a go at making some more room in the lower hull and give it a tidy up ready for the upgrade parts .Ps this is only a practise tank.

The build is the fun-est bit.
Trying to innovate a solution to a problem for a look or a part or function.
I also recommend making a cover for your transmission. I did mine with a thin plastic sheet which i put a hole in over each gear set that I can access by the two front hatches for lubricants and the cover contains the spray.
Not required if you have a fancy pants hull separation system !

Woo look at you go !!

If you want to tighten/adjust those cables, cut them at the ferrule, and then clean out the hole with a drill.
Cut the cable to length.
Twist the end & secure it with super glue(your fingers will get hung up-but thats part of it !)
The feed the shaped end back into the ferrule after you have applied new glue.
Bazingo- your length cables
