Tiger 131 101st PzAbt with Untersturmfuhrer Walter Hahn at the command passing through Morgny village on the D316 heading West toward the River Seine. Shortly after this picture was taken the column was attacked by Allied fighters.
I have always liked this image of the Tiger 1,if anyone was to ask who has not seen a tiger, i would show them this picture. I have only recently discovered where the picture was taken in the tiny village of Morgny France. I had a chance recently on a business trip to drive over to Morgny, not surprisingly, the village has changed very little since 1944. The commander sitting atop the turret is Walter Hahn, what happened to him and Tiger 131 I would be very interested in finding out.
The purpose of this project is to take a previously modded Tiger 1 and try to replicate as close as possible Tiger 131, as well as undertake a few reliabilty modifications I have been waiting to do. Once it is complete , we will take this HL Tiger over to Morgny and photogragh it in a sort of then and now R/C tank style.
So here it is ...... Taken out of the box Christmas day a few years ago by our 10 year old Son , it started out as a plastic tracked ,nylon gearbox smoker & BB. within 5 minutes the cry went out "Dad... the smoker thingy has stopped working "! Boxing day it was run through every muddy
puddle and obsticle in our local woodland park. By close of play on day 2 one snapped track and a stripped nylon gearbox !
The first build circa 2012
So after it happened, you know when you think you will add a few extra's and make it more rugged ( and then the spending gets out of hand !.Fitted with Modellbau track adjusters and metal track & gearboxes, painted and upgraded with the more common add on parts its ends up being very different to how it started. So that is the basis for this project, a HL long Tiger which already had the following modifications applied by the time I started the Walter Hann build.
Metal Early model metal tracks and idle/drive wheels
Modellbau original track adjusters
Metal Gearbox (HL)
"Rubber" zimmerit stuck on to hull and turret
Fine detail flashing turret and hull MG
Metal Cupola and MG
Single Headlight
Smoke Launchers removed
So now begins the stripdown and rebuild .................................................................
Ta for now.
