Re: Old Modeler, new R/C KT build
HI BOYS I AM BACK WITH MY OWN BUILD!!! YIPPEE!!!
Well after a fun spring and summer of joining CanAm Tank Club, battling and learning more and more I am looking forward to a winter of modifying and improving all 8 of my machines. The first one on the list is the KT I started last Jan. In hindsight I should have gutted the tank first but originally I was going to leave the guts stock till I went to my first battleday and saw some of the things the guys in the CanAm Club had done to their vehicles so....sigh... I knew I really wanted to improve the performance as well as the aesthetics of the tank so with the help of Curtis at Immortal Hobbies and MichaelC I decided on a Clark board, servo recoil(thanks Michael!), 480 motors and the new walterson gearboxes. I also wanted to upgraded the sound system And of course got a nice big 6800 mah battery to drive the whole thing.
So, to the order of business... first up was gutting the interior of the lower hull with the main thing being removal of the battery box. Once this was done a couple of pieces of styrene were cut and fitted. This was the engine firewall, battery compartment, and the hole where the battery box was. and then 2 part epoxy was used to seal around the styrene and back hull seam and front engine firewall styrene. Next to create a nice smooth floor to work on I use 2 part resin but not like the resin you get in our kits. This is tough and hard. This reinforces the hull really well and is relatively cheap to use. For $25.00 I did 2 WSN T-34/85's and 2 HL Panther G's the same way.
Next was test fitting/installing all the components going on the floor beginning with the motors and gearboxes then making the cushioned mount for the Clark board, and mounting everything else.

Re: Old Modeler, new R/C KT build
Thanks Alpha,
Next up the turret went out to MichaelC for recoil servo and new apple from immortal hobbies to be installed and conversion of the wiring for Clark board set up. Yhis apple has the same properties as a big T apple at 1/3rd the price! Wanted to get one and test it against those T pricks with their 45 degree defense and 30 M range... HA!
I also did an MG42 gunner for Michael and can't resist showing it off! Lots of fun doing 2 different camos!
Then is pic of the servo. This was an IR kit originally so easy for michael to do... but not me! He is so much better at it.
Since I went to all the trouble of doing a convoy light frame on the back I thought " you know what? I should light the thing up." so I did. Still have to do some trim work but it looks pretty good I think. The back fenders have just been stuck in for the pic. They still need to be thinned and weathered.
New 480 motors and Walterson gearboxes were put in. These are the new Walterson's with the stainless steel shafts. Again these are from Immortal Hobbies and actually were quite reasonable and WOW! what a difference operating!!!
Since the is the King I wanted to improve the sound so I custom made a styrene sound box sealed it up real good and put in a 4OHM 20 watt speaker. This sucker is LOUD! Has to be because those Waltersons are a noisy pair!
Last pic is everything in place and plugged in to hull top and turret.
So the next phase this week is to close everything up and give it a black pinwash, flat coat it, hit with some dust and see if the weather holds for a battleday Saturday!!!

Re: Old Modeler, new R/C KT build
A little more detail work done. Thinned out the rear fenders more to scale (still a little thick but this is a fighting tank) Decided to break off one side just for asthetics. Put the exhaust pipe support pieces into the stacks. Installed the jack. Put some dings and dents and finished up with chipping and rust. Added chains and a bucket and the back end is done!

Re: Old Modeler, new R/C KT build
Well guys here is my final batch of shots that I will put in a few posts. ( you may recognize one or 2 from the new KT shots post... )Everything is done except for a couple of add ons like the antenna, some folded tarps. Everything has been tested and is running perfectly. Had a go at my KV-1 and the clark system with Immortal Hobbies new Tamiya like apple works perfectly.
I want to thank this forum for inspiration, comments and all the help given to me over the past year on this build. My first in RC and my first in 20 odd years!!!
Special Kudos go out to Michael C who helped me with all the electronics, I'm slowly getting it!
I have other projects on the go but won't be doing such an in depth post and maybe no more at all!:
I just wanted to do a detailed start to finish newbie first build on the cheap to see if I could make something interesting. My KT may not be up to rivet counter standards but I like it! And I have learned so much to help me in future builds...
Thanks again everybody!!!
