Old Modeler, new R/C KT build
Greetings all!
Like a lot of guys here I am an old 1/35 and 1/25 plastic modeller from the 70's and 80's back when I wore a funny green suit and got to play with the real thing once in a while! How old am I? My first batch of 1/35 armour a Panzer Mark IV, a Grant, cost me $8.00 each! LOL!
Anyway it has been 25 years since I built any armour and I do import from China when I came across this 1/16th stuff and I couldn't resist so got a KT and a Panther from Heng Long with metal and I/R upgrade options. Wanted to start with the KT as out of the 100 or so kits I built as a kid and young adult this was not one of them.
Rather than type out comments I thought I would just add comments to pics. Now there are 3 things,
1. I never build real vehicles out of respect for the real participants. I don't judge anyone else for it, just my own rule. It actually allows me the freedom to create ficticious vehicles and have a little creative freedom with them.
2. Years ago I built balls accurate kits. At least as accurate as my limited skills allowed! LOL! With this large scale I could go nuts with time and money but I decided to do it on the cheap and make as many mods and enhancements with basic stuff as I could and look for deals on stuff I really wanted to add. So for these old eyes it should look O.K. when finished. So PLEASE! I know, it's not really accurate by any stretch of the imagination!
3. IF anyone out there sees some treatment or option that they do like by all means respond to me and I will elaberate as much detail as possible that I remember! LOL! And if there is something you see that you don't really like well, IRDGAF!!! Seriously, no problem with negative stuff at all. Too old for that! HA!
special thanks to Hetzer and Michael C for their info on this site and for Michael being just down the road! I look forward to assistance on electronics as this little stuff is all new to me! I still have to figure out how to load more than 10 pictures as I already have about 150 of this build!

love it.....keep her going. I love the hl kingtiger for mods. I opened the hatches, added zimmerit , pistol ports and upper turret details.....she was a good runner till I chopped it up for parts for the e100 build.

Thanks! Yes I have seen it done that way too. I think when you get the limit of 10 if you wait 24 hours you can add another 10. Will try it at home tonight!

Re: Old Modeler, new R/C KT build
Looking great.....you have some skills. just a FYI, I believe all the "Porsche" turrets had the commanders hatches bolted down.....if you look at the pics of the prototype in Bovington, the holes to bolt it down are there. It is my understanding that the first run of the "production" turrets had the hatches welded but after the people in the field noted the vision slots were getting shot to peaces and needed to be removed to be repaired ...they went back to bolting them down. Most commanders hatches on all the German tanks were bolted down but on display tanks after the war, they were wield so people would unbolt them and sell the parts for scrap.
look at the 5th shot on this thread...
http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/sh ... -Museum-UK
here is one of favorite shots of the top of a Porsche turret kt.....look by the lifting loop and you can see the commanders aiming post very different place than the production turret........you can also see the loaders pistol port that everyone misses ......and the commanders hatch does not look like its weilded....
hope they help.
