Re: Early tiger 1
Here's a build that was done to match that same time and unit you're going for. It might offer some ideas.

Re: Early tiger 1
Ahhh, mud makes sense, thanks jarndice .
Well I decided to open up the tiger today and found oil sprayed all through the inside of the tank I think the lovely folks at heng long need a lesson on how much blooming oil needs to be put on the gears. No matter, a quick wipe down with a rag and the con struction of a basic spray shield should ensure that no more oil gets in the circuits.
I tried to get the mantelet off to remove the reinforcement over the sights, but the phenomenal amount of glue securing the LED deterred even my best efforts ( sticking a knife through the gap and waggling it about) and made me resort to painting the commander in frustration.
Here is how he turned out.

Nice work , I always paint the hands black or grey to look like gloves as the flesh looks shit.
Don't get your panties in a bunch , we still got hand weapons and the fifty!
Re: Early tiger 1
judging from this photo, though black and white, the white outer is for sure, and the number itself is a dark color which might be either red or black.
H/L Pantiger, H/L Leopard 2A6, Mato Panzer III, Hybrid Tiger 1 and some tank wreckage
Re: Early tiger 1
Hi all.
Steelbird thanks for the photo, I'm still making up my mind as to which colour to make my numbers, but evidence like your photo and others makes me lean towards red with a white outline. Also all the decals are red.
Anyway, yesterday I made some progress with making the most tiger look like a tiger. I carved off the left side aerial tube with my crappy cheap "hobby grinder" which melted more plastic than it ground off . Oh well, it turned out alright in the end.
To keep on the theme of aerials, I also removed that pesky terminal positioned at the back of the tank (you know the one ) and filled the gap up with Tamiya putty.

Here is a really good shot of a nice model of an early Tiger.
Note the different mud guards , different exhaust guards , the spare track links stowed under the exhausts and the reversed tow cables.
Also has a pistol port on the starboard side of the turret.

You havn't mentioned the reversed tow ropes or the large turret stowage box.
The Exhaust shrouds and the front and rear fenders you have to make, everything else is out there somewhere if you look.
Shaun.
