Tamiya Tiger 1 early version

Post by FredtheFrench »

Good afternoon gentlemen.

This is the beginning of my birthday present from last year. My first Tamiya and honnestly, it is wonderful to mount. For the packaging, how I can say, it is just amazing!!!!

It will be a Tiger of 503 or 505. I would like a camo with yellow and green, but not sure these panzer abteilung used this colors.

I use 2 manufacturers for photo etched, Aber and Voyager model. I really appreciate use Voyager model, because I think easier to work.

This is the pictures of this Tiger 1.

Wow! Those details are absolutely beautiful and I can tell you took your time and did a great job working with those tiny assemblies. Can’t wait to see the completed model. Should be TOTM winner!

WOOOO Love it!

I'll be watching along, I have one of these as a "Future" build. I want to build an Afrika Korp Tiger I.

I have the Aber sets: what Voyager sets are you using? Really need some "Early" Tracks in metal

Awesome work so far, I've book marked you build!

Lovely work Fred, Like you I have always been impressed with "Voyager's" reasonable price and ease of assembly when compared with "Aber",
My only regret with "Voyager" products is how limited the availability of the P E kits are in 1/16,
Starting with a quality kit such as Tamiya's Tiger 1 gives you a head start but you have excelled even beyond what we might expect from that high standard
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Thanks gentlemen.

For BarryC, I used kit PE16004 PE16006 PE16017 PE16015 (this last one is difficult to find and I found it at dklmrc). But if it is to make a Tunisia Tiger 1, you need to buy Aber kit especially for north African Tiger 1. Turret storage, mudguards and side skirts are different and maybe exhausts covers.

For a Tunisian Tiger (501), this is some Aber ref: 16140,16141,16142,16143,16144,16145.

 Exquisite detailing, Fred.
I have two Tamiya Tigers, and fully appreciate what an advantage it is to begin work on a model that has all the fundamentals correct at the outset (turret position, cupola position, aerial location, and so on.). Your hand/eye coordination must be truly excellent to manage those watchmaker-sized add-ons. :D  Then again, I recall your superb handiwork on the swimming DD Sherman :D
Enjoy the build!. In turn, we can share in your pleasure.
