M26 Pershing - 1/16 Tamiya Full option

Post by sstudley »

Hello comrades,
I'm starting a build that will be my first Tamiya, 1/16, RC build to date. I have "assembled" a couple Taigen tanks and performed a few minor upgrades, but this is my first build as it were. I just bought this partial kit on eBay. I had noticed it was missing the electronics, but as I discovered once I had won the auction and received the kit, it appears to be missing a few other items. I wouldn't have set the limit as high, and thus would not have won the auction, had I paid closer attention to the listing. But now the deed is done and I have started assembly of what I have. I've put out feelers for the missing items, an electronics package, and tracks. I think that is all that is missing.

So today I was able to get the wheels assembled and attached along with the brackets that secure the wheels to the hull. I'm not painting things at this stage nor am I applying grease or locktite. Basically I'm doing a grand dry-fit with the exception of a few items I chose to go ahead and glue. I have been cleaning up parts as I go but haven't gone to the nats-ass on sanding just yet. I've made it through the first 17 pages of the assembly instructions. More to come...

I finished up the lower hull, minus electronics. Everything went together pretty easily with the exception of the left side plate. I found that at step 19 the holes in the side plate, although properly aligned for road wheels, return wheels and shock absorbers, for both right and left sides, did not align with the inner deck holes for the left side only. I had to disassemble the road wheels, return wheels and shocks so that I could properly align the screw holes for the inner plate (left side only). I guess I should have noticed on my own. But I hadn't. Other than that little hiccup the lower hull assembly was a breeze.

For the benefit of those visually challenged and ageing members, perhaps you could post your pics in greater detail- i.e.... in Panavision. :D
Your pics currently weigh in at around 50kb, but the limit here is around 351kb! 8O
Your handiwork will be much easier to appreciate, and enjoy in a larger format. :D

no worries, thank you for the gentle suggestion! ;) I'm working on steps 32 and 33 right now. The headlights, taillights and hatch covers. The process will slow down a bit, but I'll still update the log each day I make progress. Feel free to make suggestions and ask questions. I'll try to respond promptly.

:) Hello,
Nice job, do you intend to use original tracks or pass over metal?

Thank you. I think I'll end up using a set of metal Impact tracks with rubber pads.
