Up Armoured Pershing

Post by Ad Lav »

Well, what can I say - so much for having fewer tanks and doing up the jeep :D

A friend was selling off some radio controlled stuff, cars/boats/trucks etc and this was the one I nabbed!

Tamiya M26 Pershing.

Plans are to do an up armoured version, using some parts from Ludwigs Super Pershing kit.
Retain the standard 90mm gun, add front mantlet and glacis armour, potentially do a stowage basket on the rear. Kind of a 1946/what if build if you like.

Got my inspiration from a guy on FB who did a 1/35th model.

Rain stopped play today so carrying on with the Pershing.

Cut the edges off the mantlet armour so the Driver and MG hatches can still open.

Played about with the fitting of the glacis plates so I can still remove the hull for access.

You will notice the cut outs for the lights - Super Pershings had the lights removed or moved, being different I wanted to keep them.

Thank you Painless :)

I have finished the glacis armour and working on a stowage basket for the rear turret now.

Turret stowage basket completed.

Used a selection of plasticard and steel wire for the frame. Wire mesh lines the bottom of the basket.

And finally a shot of the finished tank.

Time to think about a painting scheme...

I say as someone who likes to paint and glue things together and have only built a speaker box out of plastic card. I do find it very interesting they way some of you here build things out of plastic sheets and turn it into a scale part of the model. Im picking up little tips along the way and appreciate the step by step photos.

Thank you Lord Panzer, Lee.

I have added some zimmerit to the mantlet armour section - seeing as the armour was cut from a Panther I thought it would look good.

Gives you an idea where I’m going for painting.
