Thanks Adam, managed to get another 'upgrade' from Forgebear on Sunday - a DKLM gearbox brace.

Image

Not sure how much good it'll be, but I needed an excuse to take the gearboxes out!

Also in the process of gluing the turret clutch gear as finding the fabled blue gears from the Tamiya 6 Speed Gearbox Set TAM72005 in the UK, seems unlikely...

As the Pershing was in bits, I added some aluminium tape to the turret ring to try and tighten up the tolerance (which is pretty wobby)

Image

Added the metal DKLM elevation arm too.

Image

And tidied up the wiring for the bazillionth time...

Image

Moved the Tamiya original antenna onto a Styrene base to cover the RC antenna slot and put a MK Modellbau Aerial in its place.

Image

Also managed to lose the end of the tow line at the GLAD meet on Sunday.

Another big 'Thank you' to gorehound for the parts - finally had a bit of time to fit them.

Looks like a another Thank You is in order, this time for Mike (@sassgrunt) for the generous offer of a spare set of Kenny Kong T-81 tracks and sprockets!

They arrived within a week from Hawaai to the UK and all for the price of shipping. Image

Think this just shows how great this forum is and the generosity of all who participate here are!

I have also recently read Spearhead: An American tank gunner, his enemy and a collision of lives in World War II by Adam Makos. There are some great pictures of the early M26, and I've decided to base this build on Clarence Smoyer's Eagle 7.

Started by fitting the new tracks and cutting off the front mud guards as depicted in the book.

She'll need a bucket load of stowage and a repaint at the end too.

Thank you again for the tracks Mike!

Mike must have noticed like I did, that you had a worthy machine for such generosity ;)

I'm considering getting the Kenny Kong tracks, what are your opinion of them?

I’m not comparing about them at all! Image

They are obviously heavier than the Tamiya originals, and are possibly ~0.5mm wider than they should be. They’re using straight pins to hold them together and Mike seems to have put in some slight bends/notches to stop them falling out easily.

Seem to be good quality and the only thing holding them back is the lack of idler adjustment on the Tamiya (one track is either too tight with 85 links or too loose with 86 - the other is perfect with 85)...

They certainly seem to be, but I've not seen the Impact tracks to compare them to...
