Jagdpanther 1946

Post by Ad Lav »

Picked up a Tamiya jagdpanther, always wanted one but didn't want to pay £650 for a new one!

eBay to the rescue.

Nice standard jagdpanther, low mileage and one owner.

Plan is to make it into a 1946/what if tank destroyer. So an evolution of the tank you would have seen in 1945.

The mods started with some plasticard AA grill sheets and some excellent parts from Ludwigs.

I was just searching the internet and it appears that your upgunned and redesigned version is about 12 tonnes heavier than the G1 and G2 production versions. This is very cool. Basically a more menuverable Jagdtiger in Jagdpanther clothing....

Builds like this are enjoyable not only for the finished product but the design and concept plus the research needed to bring it to life! Sometimes the information you acquire is just as fun.

#transmissionbreakdown *cough, cough*

Fantastic idea, following along. The AA was on my list as well, but forgot about that. How durable is this plasticard version?

Yes, I suppose if built it would basically be a smaller, nimbler jagdtiger.

Take nimbler with a pinch of salt - 57 tons is still bloody heavy!!

Lots of ideas floating around so bare with me whilst I make up my mind.

Soeren, it's fairly tough although it wouldn't take much for it to break off - a lot of the fine details sadly carry this burden. If it was brass I think it would require fixing to the hull using pins to add some strength.

Great work on the deck armor and other deck rehab, Adam. Anxious to see what you do with the gun mantlet and collar.
