I'm pleased you like the results so far.
For the colour mapping I start with a base colour then add various other colours to the area giving the impression of fading and depth, an example of this is: for dunkelgelb I would start with a base then add yellows, white and browns to the area in thin layers to add tonal variation (like a map). This can be seen in the photos of my last post. I hope this helps you. If you have any more questions please ask.

I am about to embark on a similar project - Can you tell me how you removed the old paint? I don't want to use brake fluid or toxic chemicals, and i'm looking for a solution.

It looks like the previous owner sprayed Acrylics on the tank plastic parts as well as the hull, road wheels & suspension arms. Everything is in a dark grey with black circles, ( I know its a mess).

Hi Larry,
Thanks for looking in, unfortunately, I had to use chemicals to remove the paint on my model, and it was still very stubborn.
All of the metal parts were cleaned in Cellulose thinners, the plastic parts were cleaned in Mr Muscle foaming oven cleaner, but the Hull got a bath in Brake fluid.
If your tank is just painted in acrylics you may get away with using a ammonia based cleaning product such as a kitchen cleaner or fairy power spray. but if the paint has been on for longer then you will require some thing more powerful.
