Morning all,
So after a while of thinking I have decided what to do for a new build; a Zil-131 towing a trailer mounted SA2 SAM.
I will be using TheDIYGuy999's refined Zil-131 cabin as well as trailer attachment link from this design: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3399449 . But instead of using his 10x10 dump trailer design however, I shall design my own SA2 trailer. My aim for this is to not be powered at the rear unlike the original design's, but still feature working suspension as well as an unlocking and locking mechanism for the missile itself (Maybe even make the missile functional ) . Any tips while I am doing this will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Spiky

Re: Zil 131 with SA2 SAM Missile Build
So, the first step is the usual; strip down a WPL B36 and upgrade some parts; I chose to just do the drive train as well as the metal gearbox with 370 motor (the inner axles themselves are metal meaning I do not have to worry about splitting gears, hopefully... )
I had some issues with the front axle however, most namely constant friction and slipping/ sticking. The cause turned out to be a misaligned hole in the axle itself, which meant that at random intervals it would slide out of place and prevent both gears from moving. Luckily I had a working front axle laying around that I was able to replace this with.
More progress will come soon ,
Many thanks,
Spiky

Evening all,
Made a tiny bit more progress: 3D Printed and fitted the servo clamp, cross member, and steering rod from another one of TheDiyGuy999's thingiverse posts: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3251633/files
I also fitted the wpl servo which you are sent for the kit version of the b16 to this member, replacing the awful standard binary steering with proportional steering. (I apologise for the bad image quality.) I will return to this project once my Dasmikro TBS and other electronics have arrived.
Many thanks,
Spiky

Yeah that's the cabin that the DiyGuy999's trailer system is based on, of which he designed tons of extra attachments for the cabin as well as a battery tray etcjhamm wrote:FYI
