Sd Kfz 223 conversion

Heng Long/WPL are now manufacturing 1/16 scale RC trucks, so it seemed sensible to create a forum area dedicated to the amazing things that members are doing with them. Post your builds, mods, and tips here.

Sd Kfz 223 conversion

Post by capt midnight »

Okay, I finally decided to start doctoring on my HL truck. I was wanting something to run with our German tanks, but wasn't having any luck coming up with any ideas. I came across a picture of the 223 and thought it would make the perfect build. I think it's pretty close to 1/16th, but not exact. I scaled the prints to match the tire diameter and went full speed ahead.

Here's the truck with the scaled up plans.

I had to lengthen the wheel base 15mm to make it match the prints.

I used ribs to make a center box section to build the rest of the body off of.

Here's how the body came together...

Test fitting the body onto the truck frame.

Had to do a bit of trimming on the frame, but nothing too severe.

More to come!

I ran the top of the fenders all the way through the body to give them a bit of strength...

I made up a light tow cable to wrap around the front bumper. It's picture hanging wire and some small aluminum tube.

Wow, I am amazed buy hoe 'easy' you make this look, it's stunning!
1:16 was my scale. Until 'Konan' came into my life... an Armortek 1:6 Tiger 1!
... Now followed by a Panther G, 'Gunther'!

I'm a happy man. 8)

Thanks, Marco!

It does look pretty cool running around on the ground. I've got to get a video of the turret in action. I have it tied ionto a servo with the 4 wheel steering option on my radio, so it moves as you steer the truck.
