WPL truck to Diamond T/M19 conversion

Heng Long/WPL are now manufacturing 1/16 scale RC trucks, so it seemed sensible to create a forum area dedicated to the amazing things that members are doing with them. Post your builds, mods, and tips here.

WPL truck to Diamond T/M19 conversion

Post by AlwynTurner »

When I saw the Heng Long truck I decided I really wanted a Diamond T/M19 rig so here's the start

What I'm after

Start on the chassis/axles/wheels

I was surprised by how big this thing is, it's going to have a huge turning circle!

Alwyn this is going to grow like a Triffid if your not very careful :lolno:
I remember the first "Diamond T" that I saw, It was painted bright RED and was fitted with a large diesel generator on the back and it was providing power to a large fun fair,
What got me going was the extraordinarily long Bonnet,
Even then as a young boy I wondered how the driver could possibly see where he was going.
It pretty much defined in my ever receptive young mind what a "TRUCK" really should look like.
I am watching your endeavour's with interest.
Shaun.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Thanks for the good words guys, I have decided to go for the canvas top version as I prefer this to the closed cab

The mechanicals and chassis are about done

Mounted the second motor for the rear axle
Image

Added prop shaft extensions
Image

Designed/printed a mounting box for the second gearbox so it didn't interfere with the first box and propshaft
Image
Image

This also smoothed out the angle for the propshaft so the cv joints didn't have to work so hard
Image

I've ordered a pair of Tamiya high torque motors from HK so I'll have to wait for those before I can get the chassis running, but it's coming along. I now have to bolt the extended chassis together to ensure it's rigid, then onto the body build

Thanks Carl, the hubs are printed and the tyres are moulded in rubber compound in a 3d printed mould.

Tyres look good! I ended up getting some for my DW for about $60 on eBay but only available in Australia.

A friend of mine has a ward la France, are they similar?
