HL Truck to AEC Matador build
I've made a start on the Matador, here is the real thing
Blueprint
Stripped the HL chassis
As you can see the wheelbase is wrong. Started by stripping off the unwanted bits
The servo roughly positioned
Extended the wheelbase by moving the front wheels and motor forward and the rear wheels back
which just leaves me with a short propshaft, so need to get busy and design and print a propshaft extension
Busy busy!

Re: HL Truck to AEC Matador build
Designed/printed the drive shaft extension, here it is
openscad code
module drive_shaft () {
difference() {
union() {
cylinder(h = 24, r = 3.7, $fn=60);
translate ( [0,0,15] ) cylinder(h = 19, r = 2, $fn=60);
}
translate ( [-2,-0.7,24] ) cube ([1,1.4,11]);
translate ( [1,-0.7,24] ) cube ([1,1.4,11]);
translate ( [0,0,-.5] )cylinder(h = 15, r = 2.4, $fn=60);
}
translate ( [-2.5,-0.5,0] ) cube ([1,1,11]);
translate ( [1.5,-0.5,0] ) cube ([1,1,11]);
}
drive_shaft ();
That's for those who want to print their own. Note it must be printed horizontally not vertically, if printed vertically it will shear across the deposition plane.
Here's the part fitted
I have a 2.4ghz rx/tx, I'm just waiting for an esc, haven't decided on a battery yet. I think I might be able to mount the battery between the chassis rails at the back if I redesign the cross braces/rear wheel mounts, but that's an exercise for later.

Re: HL Truck to AEC Matador build
Started on the cab, just the floor so far.
The floor was printed to get the correct shape for the wheel arches, the front and back will be styrene sheet.

Re: HL Truck to AEC Matador build
I've never liked the idea of glueing in electronic components so decided to make the servo removable using a printed bracket. I had to trim some of the base plate so it would fit but it turned out ok.
There were a couple of convenient scew holes so it worked out ok

Re: HL Truck to AEC Matador build
The cab and load bed are progressing steadily. The Openscad program and the 3d printer has enabled me to produce parts which are quite sturdy and fit together well. Previously working with styrene sheet and angle it would have taken me at least three or four times as long to achieve the same results on the cab, and it would have been pretty fragile.

Re: HL Truck to AEC Matador build
Had a busy but frustrating afternoon with the matador chassis. I designed a battery box for the rear of the chassis and it took two prints at 2 hours apiece to get it right. Anyway here it is
It will probably need a couple of mods as at the moment it can foul the diff housing when fully loaded, but that should be easily fixable, plus I will be adding the extra leaf springs supplied with the truck

I have got to say, that I love the way that you can build such outstanding trucks. They always look spot on.

With impeccable timing postie arrived with my battery
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Zippy-800mAh ... 2749.l2649
and it fits with loads of room to spare, I could have made the battery box smaller! I'll just have to pad it or velcro it in place to stop it rattling.
