Printing every tank from wot

Post by biertje »

hey everyone

last summer I broke my wrist. because of this I was not able to do any building.
luckily for me I also had a 3D printer and a lot of spare time (not being able to work).

So wile looking on thinyverse for stuff to print I found some one that had some tanks on his profile that only could be from wot.
And after a lot of googling I found a way to do this.

You will need the following 3 programs
.Autodesk meshmixer
.3D oject converter (you can pay for it ore just look for a download)
.123 Design

Than you need to find this map

Image

Open the zip file of the tier vehicle you want (not the HD fils)
And open the map vehicles, you now will get this

Image

Select a country

Image

Select a vehicle

Image

Go to the normal files

Image

Than go in to lod0 these are the highest resolution models.

Image

These are the files you can open juicing the 3d converter

Image

here is the hull of one of the 500 objects in the Russian tech tree.

Image

Now you can save it as an stl fil.

Image

Image

next you open meshmixer and select your tank part.

Image

Image

All the tanks in wot are more ore less scale 1/1000. so to get a 1/16 scale model you will need to enlarge them by 62.5 times.

Image

Now to take of all the stuff you don't need juice separate shells.

Image

You will get a list of shells (some 300 of them)

Image

Image

Now the best thing to do is to select the main hull and move it aside juicing transform.

Image

Image

Juice inspect to make sure there are no hols in the mesh. 123 design doesn't like it.

Image

Image

To make sure your tank is hollow juice make hollow.
you can play a bit whit the offset distance (to make the shell thicker) and drop to like 40 on the mesh density (it is the inside you don't need it)

Image

Now export only the bare hull to a new stl file and import this in 123 desinge.

Image

Here you can create a cylinder for were you want to make your turret ring and stuff.

Image

Place this in the model more were you want the hole to be.

Image

Image

By juicing subtract you can make the hole.

Image

Image

Now select al the other stuff from the tank, combine this and export this as one fil

Image

You can import this in to 123 design to.

Image

After two hours of screening crying and stuff, you will be able to move the parts to there position.

Image

Now just export the complete hull, don't forget the combine button.

Image

Now you only need a bigger printer and you can print any tank from wot that you like.
You can also just cut it in to parts juicing the cutting tool in meshmixer (please juice youtube for more instructions on meshmixer and the other programs)

To get this all working took me a week so I don't feel sorry for you when it takes some time =p
It takes me 20 minutes to make a printebel file now.

There is no way to do this for warthunder as far as I know now.

Please post all your results in this topic, love to see them.

Greetings tim

Just send me a pm and ill have a look for you.

The things I printed so far

Image

Image

Nashorn

Image

Churchill

Image

A30 challenger.

All these things still need a lot of work.

Two nots:
You will need to mirror the gun files because they are the wrong way round.
Sometimes your printer software will not see some single layer meshes.

Only 3rd party hosting warning pic is displayed. At least here in the U.S. anyway. A shame I'd love to see your work. Damn photo bucket.

Yes you have fallen foul of the despicable photobucket blackmail trick. I nearly went that way and stopped posting just before hitting the limit. I now use Imgur.com which so far has shown no such predatory tendencies. I hope you kept a backup of all your images.
