I'll give them a try. Regarding torsos, that's why I was wondering about laser scanners. I have a Verlinden British Commando figure on its way from Germany. I thought the uniform would double for artillery crew.

I thin down the beige red and then virtually dry brush it over the edges of the dark infill.

Here are the results of the test I did using the Medium and Dark Flesh colours.

Believe it or not, the face on the left was painted with the Medium Flesh and the one on the right with the Dark. Personally, I think they are too yellow, but I would be interested in other people' opinions. I am thinking they are probably meant for shading, using what they call Basic Flesh as the base.

However, if you think it worthwhile, I am quite happy to continue with these to see how they finish up.

Keep it coming Richard, and many thanks for doing comparisons between different colours, as that is the part that gives me strange results.

I have completed several more stages. First of all I added some highlights on the cheeks, the bridge of the nose and other prominent areas. I used a very thinned down paint - both Flat Flesh and Basic Flesh - not mixed together but a separate applications. You can blend the paints by stippling the edges. If need be, you go back over with the Beige Red. It is a subtle effect and you may need to go to and fro with the different colours.

For the mouth, the top lip is painted with Deep Red, the teeth with Pale Sand and the bottom lip with a mixture of Flat Flesh and Deep Red. If you use the Deep Red on both lips, he looks as though he's wearing make-up.

You can carry on with more shading etc if you with, but for my purposes, I will leave them as they are.

I hope this has been useful. If anyone has any queries, I will do my best to answer them, but as I said when I started, I do not consider myself to be anything of an expert.

Incidentally, with the experimental figures, I decided to complete the one painted in Medium Flesh just to see how it turns out. I did some work last night, and interestingly, the face looked a very different colour under artificial light. The other figure, I stripped the paint off using some airbrush cleaner and repainted it in Basic Flesh. If I am happy with this as a base, I will complete this and post photos of both faces when done, so you can make your own comparisons.

Overall. it's not come out too badly. I think I shall have to do something about the Groucho Marx eyebrows, though.

Wow- that takes a lot of patience doesn't it? I'm not sure I am able to do that. You are correct in that the way they show up is pretty bad.

Be well,

At some stage I want an Otto Carius figure to finish my Tiger. So while I’ve been away with work for the week, I packed some painting gear and some unused Heng Long figures to give Dave Youngquist’s techniques a try. The local hobby store had some Italeri flesh paints and here is the result. I’m satisfied with it and I’ll try some others before attempting ‘Otto’.
