HG-P803A

Post by jarndice »

You know how it is,
You see something on a website (http://www.geekbuying.com ) and the red mist comes before your eyes although in my case it might have been caused by something else :lolno:
The urge to punch "Buy Now" is almost overwhelming and then the doubts start flooding in,
£ 570 WHAT!!!(Including £13 Insurance ) HOW MUCH ? ARE YOU MAD ? Its an 8 wheeled tipper truck not a Tamiya box of assorted bits and pieces,
And do you really trust someone in China when they promise you will have it in a fortnight,
Yeah Right,
This morning 13 days after ordering there was a knock on the door and a lady from parcelforce said we have a large heavy box for you, and she shouted to her helpmate, ok bring over. and this large man came to the door barely managing to carry a big box,
No signature and off went the little red van, I never did see Jess
Boy was it heavy,
out with the Swiss Army knife and carefully cut the brown cardboard box open,
Straightaway my heart dropped, Oh no they have sent the cheaper HG-P801/802 for that is what was displayed on the glossy sides of the inner cardboard box I slid it and a smaller box from the outer box then I opened the glossy box and inside was a big styrene smooth sided case with a carrying handle,
How on earth do I open it Think I?
Clever people the Chinese, Inserted along three sides are magnets holding the two sides together. and inside is my HG-P803A with two handbooks plus a pamphlet of instructions for the enclosed very nice transmitter and a box of tools, Wheel spanner ! Nutspinners and various bolts and other fittings, and a decal sheet.
Impressed ? You better believe it,
But that's enough for now because it looks like lunch is almost over and I am expecting Joe Root to declare.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Good Morning,
Passed one of these on the way out of Colorado Springs on Saturday while driving up to Longmont. It was in a small convoy of Hemtt Transporters. Enjoy your new truck, Jarndice. ;o)

regards,
Painless

That's a highly detailed looking model, Shaun (all the better to be appreciated by the remodelled peepers :D ).

Something about it reminds of the Corgi Bedford Tipper truck I had back in the 1950s. Mind you, £500+ exceeds the nostalgia factor for me, by a considerable margin. :)
In those days, we called trucks 'wagons'- even if the term technically only applied to the bits behind the cab, or to wag(g)ons towed by horses.

The tractor has been out for a while now. Here is a link to some pics that was available and also taken by myself. There has been two version, one is the tractor only, the other one with the bed. The latest version has the lift on the bed as well.

There will be the full Patriot version shortly as well. There is a optional crank that you can purchase.

The details is amazing and it runs like the real thing.

Something that has surprised me was the supplied Transmitter which because it was a Chinese Truck I assumed the radio would be of the Heng Long/Taigen closed circuit type,
Included with the Radio is a very nice neck strap.
No such thing it is a 16 channel 2.4 Digital with the choice of using 6 AA batteries or a similar capacity Lipo.
So if I want to I can use one of my own Transmitter/Receivers instead and of course Because this is a Truck based Radio it might just be ideal for working my tanks instead of having to download specialised software as I do at present.
One unused receiver Channel is tagged "Turret" in the handbook
Certainly there are plenty of excess available switches that are not used with the Truck just waiting to be reassigned
A usb charging cable is supplied although you will need to hook it up to a phone charger,
When ordering the Truck a Lipo Truck Battery and a Charger are offered as an extra cost option But if you are running Lipos in your Tanks then save your money because the truck Lipo is a 2s/3s 7.4 Lipo which of course is exactly the same as in our tanks,
The 9 channel Receiver is in the chassis mounted battery box,
The Truck battery slides in between the rear chassis rails and it uses a "Deans Connector",
Access to the battery bay is behind the screwout rear light holder,
The screwdriver is part of the supplied tool kit.
The Spare wheel is really a Spare wheel !!! and changing a wheel when using the supplied wheel brace is very much easier than changing a full size truck wheel :lolno:
The cab which unfortunately does not tilt is accessed by doors fitted with working door catches and the cab interior is fitted with a full panel of instruments by virtue of a legible decal sheet,
The passengers side has a multi colour heater display,
The cab door cards are highly detailed,
The hinged Rear view mirror frames are rubber so will not snap when striking immovable objects,
The Mirrors will shortly benefit from an application of liquid chrome from my "Moctow"Pen.
Behind the cab is a highly detailed engine that would benefit from judicious use of a paint brush to bring out the highlights,
Among the accessories is a pack of load body fittings that by using the supplied screws are used to hold a Sheet/Tarpaulin/Tilt in place, That unfortunately is not supplied
The 6 dropside flaps do just that but have working bolts that lock/unlock them in position,
The Tailgate is hinged but also can be locked shut
By driving out the tailgate and dropside upright retaining pins the uprights can be removed leaving a very nice flatbed.
The Headboard is also removable.
Disappointingly the working cab roof beacon is not orange or indeed blue but has a greeny/red strobe effect,
That might just get changed in the future.
Turn the steering and the indicators come on, :haha: Childish I know but it gave me a buzz the first time I saw them come on,
A very nice engine tone that rises as the truck accelerates and the HORN works.
The Axle casings came as a bit of a shock for in common with everything else under the truck all 4 are metal as is the transfer box as are all of the propshafts,
The "Steering Rope" is actually Steel Cable and a spare is in the toolkit.
By the way there are two selectable forward gears.
The more I get used to this 1/12 scale very heavy (9.5 KGs) RC Truck the more I think it to be a bit of a very well built total fun bargain.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:
