TK24S Questions.

Discussion for Clark electronics

Postby Biasphere1 » Sat Aug 06, 2022 9:17 am

I have a TK24S in my big Sherman I can get everything I plug in to work but the Cannon/mg1 on VrB goes into an infinite loop as does the MG on VrA switch , I have to manually stop the loop by going to the opposite Vrb/VrA switch as in if cannon is up I have to go to switch down to stop the looping , I'm fairly certain It's a CN3 thing but I don't have a Sony remote and IR configurator .
I can get both smokers to go the cannon and engine ones all turret functions work as in up down , rotate and boom with recoil , all the right noises as well . It's just the infinite loop thing any person watching me roll the tank wouldn't know but I do and I'd like to fix it..
I've got a Sabertooth 2X12 on the PWM output working on another circuit , no change with that plugged in or out of the system.
If you've never seen a Sabertooth from Dimension Engineering then do so as this little box is a work of art , it is truely a stunning little bit of kit.
Kenny from DAKRCTANK is trying to help a gumby like me a little but as I'm a super doofus but cheers and THX Kenny .He's sending me the r3mote and config unit if I can just work out how to pay for it .lol.
I've got a post up in large scale here if you want to have a look.
Cheers .

Which radio are you using? Looks like you are using the Turnigy TGY-i6S radio which is the Turnigy version of the FlySky FS-i6S which I have. The VRa and VRb are the little rotor wheels on the top of the radio. I'm guessing that is what you are calling a switch? VR actually stands for "variable resistor". So if that radio has the same channel assignment as my Flysky then the channels should be assigned like this:

CH5 - SWA
CH6 - SWD
CH7 - SWB
CH8 - SWC
CH9 - VRA
CH10 - VRB

I would star by double checking that. The VR rotary knobs should return to center after actuating them. The VR on the left should actuate both a MG sound and a cannon sound depending on the direction you move the VR. At least that's the way it works on the TK40, 50, and 80s I have. If the channels are all set up the way they should be then I'm not sure what would be the cause. Setting up the channels this way ensures that all the functions work the way they are described on the Clark website for SBUS.

There was talk a long time ago that the Turnigy version of the radio needed a firmware update in order to have all the same functions as the Flysky version. Not sure if that is still true or not.

I explained it poorly and yes it's a rotary knob. Yup I have all the same except channel 9 is VrB and channel 10 is VrA . I can't see that being the issue but I will swap them and see , I'll go do that now .No it didn't change anything except what it was supposed to . .Kenny from DAKRCTANk said it might be a CN3 thing . I'm thinking I might have to short out the Airsoft recoil switches or something .I haven't had the Sony remote and IR config thing on it yet and not sure if it was a new board or an old one Kenny had in a box somewhere so when I get the Sony on it it might make more sense .
Mate the TK24S runs on 7.2 to 7.4 V ,I'm fairly certain . I've only run it with 2S 7.2V is there any chance it's undervolted ?
THX for reaching out.
Cheers mate.

Yeah, the VRA and VRB channels can be swapped with no issues. That is really a preference as to which you want where. Voltage shouldn't be an issue. From the Clark site: "Wide operating voltage rage, from 7.2 to 12V, support 3S Li-Po battery".

Have you checked on whether or not the Turnigy has newer firmware available than what you have in it?

Go to: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-tgy ... black.html

Click on Manual/Files in the black bar. It is showing the latest version is 0.0.5.11.

The radio is very new a month or so old I thought it'd have the newer software but I'll check it and update it if need be .
Are you sure the TK24S can go to 12V Tankme as on their site I never actually found a statement for the TK24 being 12V , all the TK20 and TK22 were up to 12V but I was not 100 percent with the 24 series , I mean if they are it should be but it never directly says 12V for a 24 series (I think) and I wouldn't want to blow it's guts out .I have a good Helo 3s11.1V that if it is 12v I can use .
Are you 100% sure it's 12V capable .Does anyone have a TK24 series manual I guess is next .
I downloaded the Software update and it's the same .There's got to be an execute function conflict somewhere .
I figured out Paypal so the Sony and IR programmer Kenny will send me very soon.
Cheers and THX Tankme for your time mate .

In connector CN3, pins 4 & 5 are usually setup for the airsoft recoil switch, if that is the turret type used..
My question would be is what type of turret system do you have? Is it a standard HL recoil/airsoft unit? An Asiatam/taigen, or an aftermarket servo style recoil barrel?
From that you can setup the Clark for what type of setup you have for connection CN3.

Jarlath I am using a servo to control recoil on J2 and yes it works fine the cannon fires and she recoils at that instant as well as the smoker works too .I think it's called real recoil but not sure .
Is this saying the TK24S is a 7.2 to 7.4 Volt system or is it saying that's the drop down Voltage to the particular system ?

Just a PS addendum the wrapper the Clark board came in had "TK24S 14 " written on it if that's anything .
Another PPS
This is what Kenny from DAKRCTANK wrote me.
From the desc, this would indicate hardware configuration vs software config defaults not meshing and/or missing something with wiring (i.e. microswitch triggered by a non-servo physical recoil that sends signal to board to turn off that motor). See CN3 details on the microswitch wiring - http://www.clark-model.com/eng/prod_rx20/

I'm off to try something .BBK soon.
I also just noted my elevation clicker noise is always on too unless I centre the stick , I haven't configured it for servo operation yet but when I do I'll see if it stops it .

Cheers.
