Your models are exquisite. But what amazes me is the speed which you build them with.

Thank you Meter Rat !

Here is the crew of the vehicle. These are the Commonwealth Summer TC and Driver tank crews provided by Dean of DGS. They are WW2 but the uniforms of the 70s were similar and will be painted olive green. The berets will of course be painted UN Sky Blue.

Hi

Today i received a shipment from Chris Ludwig, among them were replacement M113 roadwheels 3D printed in a new material. At first touch and sight, they are stronger and better printed. The bolt details will not fall at the first touch like the old ones. The lines that were obvious on the edges with the old material now look more regular with a finer grain. But the truth will only come out once they are primed.
Chris Ludwig M113 roadwheels

Extreme zoom. Better than i expected. At least, the material is uniform and consistent. I am happy so far.

Comparing the new one on the left with an old one on the right, that one still has it bolts but i did drill the rim hole for experiment.

With this, i will be able to finish the M113 build once i take a break on the M24 build.

Hi,

As i await for parts, i have decided to put the M-24 Chaffee build aside and finish the M-113 Lynx, now that i have received everything needed for it.

One of the remaining item to create was the Browning M1919 machine gun, converted to Nato 7.62mm and operated by the observer.

I had difficulty finding references for it. The 1/35 kit is simplified but provided some dimensions for the pipes. All M113 Lynx monuments have their rear machine gun mount removed. Its only on Youtube that i have found a video of a restored running vehicle with all its armaments. I was able to catch a few fuzzy pictures to help me and get the basics of it. I have not yet reproduce some minor details that i would like more investigation done before i do them.

The M1919 mount selling on Shapeways is a WW2 mount, but i was able to use it as a base for modifications.

After a couple of hours, this is the machine gun mounted on the vehicle, looking good. With a cooler heed, I will probably be adding some more details, like a chain and some pins that i see.

Time to mount the new Ludwig roadwheels on the M113. All the inner ball bearings are migrated to the new wheels.

Chris changed the design of the back of the wheel, new model of the left, old one on the right. The printed inner rim now has to be replaced with metal washers, a good idea.

Tank Modellbau of Germany now sells M-113 roadwheel hub caps. However, they are probably for a German made model that is not installed on Canadian or US M-113.

The M-113 Lynx hub caps need to look like this. I found this after purchasing them.

I have decided to reuse them with modification. First task is to make the rim hollow so that i can put them on the ludwig roadwheel with the M3 bolts that i am using as shaft and that protrude out a bit.

Starting to modify them. Unmodified at the upper left, modified at the bottom, and a Ludwig 3D printed example coming with the roadwheel. Now you understand why i want to use the resin ones.

Comparing before and after. However, i noticed later one more modification that i can do, which is to make the middle section a bit more square instead of completely round.

Hi,

The model got it first coat of Tamiya enamel primer. This is when everything wrong (scratches, cracks, residues..) that was hidden under the plasticard whiteness suddenly become visible. Very little corrections were actually required. Second coat was done. The model is now awaiting to get its Mig Ammo Matt white acrylic coat, UN markings and weathering tomorrow.

Close up on the primed Ludwig M113 roadwheels with modified Tank Modellbau hub caps. I am very satisfied with the overall look and detail of the roadwheel with the new material that Chris used. It's a real improvement.

Hi, the following two posts are for the painting of the model and application of decals.

The model is given a coat of Mig Ammo Matt White acrylic and will get its details painted.

I have purchased a UN decals sheet from eBay China for a few dollars. These are quite thin and were unforgiving when applied. If you pull them off the sheet too fast, they easily break.
RC 1/16 M113 Lynx Command and Recon tank - build
RC 1/16 M113 Lynx Command and Recon tank - build
I needed to make extra decals that did not come with the other sheet. Multiple versions of the required decals were made in different tone of UN "sky blue" in order to select the best match with the other decal sheet. These decals were made using Powerpoint and then inkjet printed on a virgin decal sheet, then applied a coat of Tamiya semi-gloss varnish. I let the sheet dry for a day, these were then cut and applied without any issue.

Decals are applied. An RC tank in UN markings is rare.

The model is weathered by dry brushing black and dark steel pigments, then given a coat of Tamiya Flat varnish. The Canadian flag is from an Archer dry transfer sheet.

Hi,

Here we have the completion of the Tank Modellbau M113 tracks.

The metal tracks are given a coat of Mig Ammo Track Rust wash for weathering. The rubber pads are prepared by giving them a good sanding to remove the newly molded aspect. These tracks should look worn out.
RC 1/16 M113 Lynx Command and Recon tank - build
RC 1/16 M113 Lynx Command and Recon tank - build
The tracks have a good tub for the pad in rest on. The bottom is scraped first to give the glue a better anchor, then the hole is covered with thick superglue before the pad is sunk in for a firm hold from the bottom and sides, but not too much to overflow.
RC 1/16 M113 Lynx Command and Recon tank - build
RC 1/16 M113 Lynx Command and Recon tank - build
The tracks are ready. In parallel, the figures are painted.
RC 1/16 M113 Lynx Command and Recon tank - build
RC 1/16 M113 Lynx Command and Recon tank - build
And here is the finished model, minus a few improvements i still have to do, such as hatch handles. I am still waiting for the Aber radio antennas, so i will give the model another finishing touch in about 2 weeks.

In the meantime, here is a good walk around of a RC M-113 Lynx in 1/16 scale. Other than the running train, it is all scratch build. I have the feeling that this model is pretty much unique in the world. Very few guys build AFVs. I am happy to show something here that is quite rare. I personally never saw another one on this scale. I hope you enjoyed the build. I will post a video of the model in operation in the coming days.
