M-113A2 APC - Late 1980s with Tow launcher - Build
Re: M-113A2 APC - Late 1980s with Tow launcher - Build
Well Louis, you've done it again my friend.
If you had posed it in some scaled terrain it would have easily been mistaken for a full sized machine.
Simply fantastic!!

Hi,
With this step, the basic exterior painting and light weathering has been applied. Done in my usual style, with Black and Dark Steel pigments. Because this is mainly a 'construction' build, It is not my style to put a lot of dirt on y vehicles, I leave this to others who are much better than me at it.
Next step is the interior painting. In parallel, I will start preparing the rubber pads for the tracks.
Regards, Louis

Hi,
Presenting the finished M-113A2 Tow launcher interior.
Next step is to go around the vehicle and add some missing items, and then it will be finished.
Regards, Louis

Here are a few more pictures with some explanations
The dials on the driver's console are 1/24 aircraft decals from my airplane modelling days. It only takes a few minutes to apply dial decals to really improve the look of the console instead of trying to paint something crappy in there. Many Shapeways Communication switches were used instead of the Verlinden part, leftovers from the M-113A1 ACAV build.
The fake telecom and electric wiring are 0.5mm and 1mm rubber elastic bracelet cord sold on ebay for a few dollars for many meters. It is perfect to simulate wiring, very easy to position and glue in place instead of using real wires. Seen here are Shapeways com box and speaker.
The heater and Tow missile launcher tripod in storage position.
Tow missile decals are of course non existant in 1/16 scale. I did paint the yellow line seen in ref pictures. I was able to reuse some Tamiya .50 cal ammo box decals to at least put a Lot number on the missile. The latches for the TOW missiles are brass trips with Shapeways German ww2 tool holder.
And a rear left view of the interior. I took some liberty in placing the fire extinguisher. Ideally, some storage, such as missile coolant boxes, will fill the void caused by the removal of the internal fuel tank.

The lighted interior shots through the rear ramp are truly very realistic looking. Super work Louis!

Hi,
And to really finish this one, I added the rubber pads on the tracks, with a medium rust weathering.
And finally, I could not resist posing the two M113 side by side
Thank you,
Louis
