Many thanks for the very kind words of encouragement fellas, praise indeed from some master builders. Should have her finished later on today/tomorrow so, will post the final pictures on completion. I’ve really enjoyed the transition from boats and the steep learning curve of tank building.

An interest thought happytank, and yes I remember that series think it was HMS FEARLESS, lots of working features from memory.

Yes, I’ve been building large scale model warships from my era in the RN (1970’s)for a few years now, and continue to do so. The one in the picture is HMS CRICHTON a Ton class minesweeper using a 1:38 scale GRP hull, lime strip planked decks with the rest mainly scratch built. To date she has taken almost 4 years to build, but nearly complete now.

Thanks again for looking.
Take care..........Gary

Looks great! Nice work!

Mind if I give you a tip?

The straps for the Jerry cans, put them through the handle to tie them down.

Cast hull didn’t have a weld line on the rear.

Really impsressed though, when I do the seag for autumn you’ll have to bring it along and I’ll take mine :)

Thanks for that Adam, to late to change the retaining straps as the fixing points would look odd now..... take your point entirely. Accuracy has never been my strong point, more what’s pleasing on the eye.

The weld line I took from this photo and just assumed it went right along the back plate, likewise be difficult to change now.

Yup, very much looking forward to the next SEAG meet, we can have our own “six day war”

Doesn’t detract from a lovely model! I’m not a rivet counter as such but with a real M51 20 mins away I got to know the vehicle really well :)

Photos of the M51 and M1 before restoration.

M51 post restoration - note the straps and no weld like rear.

It could have been marks from the casting process?

M51 gun travel lock from shapeways - where did you get yours?

Was on a sprew along with other stuff I got from Axels, took the design from the same photset I used and tarted it up a bit. I thought the shapeways stuff very nice, but if I honest a little expensive and looked delicate.

Thanks for those images, must have been massive task to bring her here and restore.

Bit of detailing with chains on the smoke launchers, and front towing brackets. Gonna call it a day at that now. Just leaves final paint of the chains and then clear coat semi matte next week.

Final images of my IDF Sherman, she’s lightly weathered and Matte clear coated. Not sure she’s a little too matte, might have to change that.

Anyway, thanks for looking/commenting I hope you like her.
