US Memorial Day

Post by Herr Dr. Professor »

Although, as I understand it, the United States holiday called "Memorial Day" is not dedicated solely to veterans, it is a holiday on which so many veterans are remembered as beloved friends, family, siblings, parents and grandparents. My own late parents contributed to the war effort from late 1941 until late summer of 1946. My mother sewed GI rain ponchos and supported other women who lived on or near "stateside" military bases, all praying for the return of young husbands. My father fought across the South Pacific in the Signal Corp and was kept in active service for an extra year to continue duties in the Philippines. In honor in then, of all veterans, I offer this modest photo I call "Pearl Harbor."
