Waterproofing a Sherman hull

Post by Rob1970 »

What is the best way to waterproof the hull of Sherman? Probably going with all plastic running gear. Main concern is the axles from the gearbox to the drive wheels. #asking for a friend...

I was going to suggest something similar :)
But i have been pondering this very same thing as i have acquired a large landing craft and i would like to drive my Sherman off of it into the shallow water.
So i have been toying with the idea of making sealable compartments for certain things to help protect them from any water that does get in.
Although it did get me pondering how easy it would be to make one float!

Well, without a turret and the added superstructure you have plenty of "dry space" in a BARV. I think the sealed bearings would work (not like I will be going all that deep...)
And yes, also been pondering if I could make a Sherman float... a DD version would be fun to build. Not sure I would go -full- DD tho... I would probably do the screws from separate motors/shafts.
