IR unit compatibility

Post by NAB »

Does anyone know the cross compatibility of the IR units from different companies?
Also if a tank doesn't list that it's IR is it a big job to include it (taigen)

Thanks

Are you looking at the IR Emitter & Receiver units themselves, or the board compatibility?

Not very easy to install, just a cord to plug in, depending on the type of plate in the tank

For RX 18

I'm a noob at all this so I'm kind of asking everything to do with IR lol.

1 if most boards have IR functions

2 if IR is cross compatible between manufacturers

Generally, IR systems from different manufacturers are not compatible. Currently Taigen systems are on their own, Tamiya's is the primary one that clubs seem to favour and HengLong's is Tamiya compatible but doesn't have all the functions. There are others but not so widely used. Some multi function units (boards) are configurable.

Prices and availability of some parts vary too. For example, latest type Taigen IR tanks have recoil and flash but not BB whilst latest HL tanks have IR and BB but not recoil and flash. Taigen parts are readily available from Forgebear but not all HL parts are easily found in UK, for example.

All you need to know can be found on the forum. Once you know what route you want to go, provide more detail and ask again.

1: yes most of the cards have Infra Red,
2: normally compatible, except Tamiya in some cases? See supplier sites
3: if for Taigen (as you indicate) very easy to install, see links provided, my translation was bad

I've found a nice metal upgraded Tiger on my local market place but it's Taigen and doesn't mention IR so that's what's got me interested

While we are on the subject, what's the accuracy of the Taigen Tiger 1 like? Or should I just get a new HL Tiger 1?

That's useful. If it's not the latest type mfu and you want to make it a Taigen IR type you may need to upgrade the mfu and purchase all the IR emitter and detector components. If you are UK based then speak to Dave at Forgebear who will have what you need - best service too.

In fact, if that is the case, you don't need anymore advice than this.... Just ask Dave!

Accuracy? Both types, one shot will kill every tank in the hall! You will need to use a small non reflective tube in front of the IR emitter led, dimensions need to comply with your club rules.
