Taigen top deck release kit[latest system]

Post by John Glover »

Have purchased Taigens latest hull release kit for their metal hull Panzer 111/Stug 111 which instead of the hooks being unlatched from the sides as the old kit did this kit has a rod which passes through the bottom of the hull which when moved side ways will move the hooks that hold the deck to the hull to move sideways and release Any one who has one of these will know what I am talking about. No instruction's supplied with mine and I am at a confused to how exactly the plastic L shaped brackets in the kit are located and mount. Any one have this kit and how it mounts. A few photos would be much appreciated .Regards John.

Thanks Martin. Could you post a photo of the side of the hull where the screws go on the outside to locate the plastic L shaped that are on the inside of the hull [either side] that attaches the hook assembly to the hull. Did you install your kit. Regards John.

Better than the old system.. That is for sure...
But I have always hated those simplified hooks used for the slider to secure upper/lower hulls together. Had one come lose in a KV-1 and it swivelled and would NOT unlatch (It moved, just stayed hooked). I now either magnetize the hulls, or add in a small bar across both hooks to ensure they stay aligned (and epoxy/etc...).

I have a bunch of Taigen T-34 hulls and I'm only using the quick release kit on one of them and that's the SU-122 because it allowed me to line everything up and keep it aligned while attaching the casemate. It took a lot of playing with the hooks to get to work really smooth so now I think I'll leave it on that one build.

Thanks to all you guys for replying to me and also the advise .One last question. Am I correct that on the outside of the hull on each side there is only one screw per side and that screw goes through the rectangle slot that is already present on each side of the hull. This kit came with more screws than I need so I am just confirming. In one of the photos sent, it shows me the outside of the hull and one screw but the area is part blocked by the idler/return wheel in the photo and I just wondering if there is two.Regards John.
