Re: Gearbox Ratio Help
Hi, I use-----
"WD-40 SPECIALIST Anti-Friction DRY PTFE Lubricant",
Do not confuse this with regular WD-40, It is a completely different product. It is as its name suggests low friction and there is no overspray to damage the electronics in the hull of your tank.

Re: Gearbox Ratio Help
That's not true. The Taigen ball bearing gearboxes have bearings on all reduction shafts and the main axle shaft. Bearings, not bushings.jarndice wrote:
At the Heng Long/Taigen level the best of their gearboxes do NOT run in bearings they run in Bushes,

Re: Gearbox Ratio Help
As for lube, I use a drop of three-in-one oil on the bearings or bushings and white lithium grease on the gears themselves.

Do you mean the one that’s for plastic gears?Max-U52 wrote:As for lube, |I use a drop of three-in-one oil on the bearings or bushings and white lithium grease on the gears themselves.

Re: Gearbox Ratio Help
I don't have any plastic gears so I never really considered that. The grease I use is called lubriplate. This stuff

Re: Gearbox Ratio Help
Just two points to add to that useful snippet, ball race bearings are found on some gearboxes, including the new HL ultimate ones though l don't recall if all the shafts are so fitted, some may be bushes. If you can remove the bushes you will find out there somewhere someone selling ball race bearings that will fit to replace them. If you fit 'sealed' bearings then they will keep the grit out.
Secondly, whilst knowing the overall reduction ratio is useful, don't forget to factor in the diameter of the drive sprocket as that is the equivalent of the wheel size and hugely impacts the final drive ratio.

Re: Gearbox Ratio Help
Okay, that clears it up.
Re: Gearbox Ratio Help
Here is how Mato gearbox sounds. Plus you can hear in the proportional smoker made of the stock HL smoke units.

Wow. Sounds like a coffee grinder. My Taigen boxes sound like that.
