Bent Driveshaft

If it were mine....

I would dismantle the gearbox and remove the shaft. Once free, wrap in tissue paper to avoid scratching and then place shaft in the jaws of a large vice. By tightening then turning and retightening over and over the shaft should straighten. If it rolls freely in a sheet of glass its straight!

Wow. I did install driveshaft supports but I’ll post a pick later of the hull damage damage I just found around the hole where the shaft comes through.

I was lucky enough to straighten the driveshaft with a big crescent wrench and now it rolls smooth as silk.
On the other hand I was quite surprised to see some unexplained damage to the hull around the driveshaft opening. The support bushing was barely hanging on attached by one screw.

Thanks. I’ll be more careful about where and how I drive it from now on. I’ve spent too much time and effort on it to bash the hell out of it.
