Panzer III Winterketten sprocket?

Post by jimbo_wa »

Now that I have a set of Winterketten, I've found that the sprocket teeth are too close together for the receiving holes in the tracks. They don't fit flush to the sprocket and unless tightened (taut) will slip when driving and turning.

The Ostketten fit perfectly.

They are on a Taigen Panzer III metal chassis with all Taigen wheels/sprockets.

I think that there is an 'easy' fix by filing the gaps wider?

Any other suggestions or pointers...

For the record, those tracks came from Mato in Canada.
They have been run and fitted spot on in my PzIII Munitionschlepper which had all
Metal running gear which was aftermarket Taigen .
I have the same running gear on my StuG and the tracks off it are now on the PzIII so 2 sets of WK fit and run perfectly.
Any guidance on this will be greatly appreciated.

I have a pair of Taigen Winterketten on a Taigen Panzer 4 and they are a perfect fit so I am assuming your tracks are not from Taigen,
If you know the maker then research whether there are matching sprockets that fit your PZ111.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

I've found a pair of Mato sprockets for £14 delivered - does anyone have a set already for some measurements please?!

Thanks Rad - much appreciated!

*WAKE-UP*

Just measured my Taigen sprocket (what a great word that is!) and the internal diameter to base of each tooth is 47mm, with total external diameter at 53mm.

Each tooth is 4mm high and 4mm wide at the base, tapering to 3mm at the outer edge with a 4mm gap between each tooth.

Cheers!

Uops, I forgot it and I am already at job. In 8 hours I will be at home so I will measure that. Sorry!

Work!? Seriously is that now an excuse to not look at a tank...

No worries, as there is little rush!

Hi, I took the measures, and my sprochets have the same dismetrical size, and same tooth size, but the gap between the tooth is about 3mm.

So I think that extra milimeter you have is what is annoying you.... For those who said the size does no matter, it really does, lol.

Thanks Rad, first time size has been an issue for me...

I’ll order up the Mato sprocket and hope it gets here before the next GLAD meet.
