Which gearbox size should I use? (HL Tiger I)

Post by Tiger111 »

Greets to fellow members and guests at the forum!
I have yet ANOTHER question regarding my Heng Long 1/16 German Tiger I. It is completely unmodified, so I would very much like to install Taigen Tanks' standard V2 Steel Ball bearing gearboxes into my tank in as one of my very first upgrades to my tank. My only question is I haven't got a clue what particular type of gearbox I should be using, being new to this I have yet to understand what different sizes are and what they mean (e.g., "H/L [high/low?] 4:1 [?] 48mm) such as what High/low indicates or what the significance of 4:1, 2:1, etc. is. I was also wondering if it be possible to get a gearbox size that would also not only fit the HL Tiger I chassis, but also the Taigen chassis (I plan to get a Taigen Lower chassis and upper hull). If anyone could help me with this it would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!
Them: WHY do you like tanks so much?
Me: Well, let's see.... It's an all terrain machine of steel with a GUN mounted to the top. The REAL question SHOULD be, why WOULDN'T I like tanks "so much"..... 8)

Is it compatible with both the Taigen and Heng Long chassis?

I echo Toms advice But you must make sure you are buying a TAIGEN Gearbox that is compatible with the Heng Long Gearbox mounts,
I know you have not mentioned Heng Long Metal Gearboxes so I will, AVOID, they are made of questionable metal which falls apart with great readiness.

This is a Taigen Gearbox that is approved for a Heng Long Tiger 1-----

"Taigen TG 1202-S 4 to 1 ratio Pro Steel Gearboxes (Short Shaft)",
This comes with bearings on each shaft and is readily available,

It sells for about £60 in the UK,
IMEX in Florida which has an online shop sells them in the USA,
Erik is the main man at IMEX and is one of us and very helpful.

Thank you so much much for that information! One more question, would 48mm be considered the short shaft?

That would be the exact length output shaft for a Tiger 1 Heng Long Tank.
Make sure you order the "STEEL" not the cheaper alternative.

Hello Tiger. Imagewhat brand are the Tiger tracks you purchased? Are they Taigen or Mato? Either set should come with spare links and pins. The Mato metal tracks are bit smaller in size and not as robust.
Tanks alot....
