WSN T34 upgrade
I first asked this way back and never got a reply, so I'm having another go. When I changed the board over to a Clark TK22, I had to change the battery from 9.6v to 7.2v. The net result was that far from it being one of the fastest tanks on the battlefield, it can now be overtaken by just about anything. Has anyone experience of changing the motors on one of these? There is not a lot of info to go one. This is what is inside the gearbox.
If this is not possible, then I shall be grateful if someone could recommend suitable replacement gear boxes. I believe a few people have modded the WSN T34 in the past. This is the current model, not the older one with opening hatches.
Oviously, what I would like is something with more guts in terms of speed and pulling power. If this is not possible, then I shall be grateful if someone could recommend suitable replacement gear boxes. I believe a few people have modded the WSN T34 in the past. This is the current model, not the older one with opening hatches.

Hi, dave (forgebear) has the heng long steel gearboxes for the t34, they might be persuaded to fit.

Re: WSN T34 upgrade
I have an old wsn T34 where i fried one off the motors trying to fit metal gears ( junk that binds).
I replaced it with a motor from an 1:24 HL tank, and that one ran faster so i had to replace the other one aswell.
Later i replaced the wsn Gear box with hl ones. It takes a bit off cutting and twisting, but its doable.

Re: WSN T34 upgrade
Will the Clark run off a 9.6v battery?
I used to have one of these with an Elmod board, I fitted the metal gears but the one thing I remember about that build was that those gears were an absolutely illogical fit, as well as needing filing to get them to work! I don't recall it being super slow or anything though? It pulled ok on the rough stuff.

Re: WSN T34 upgrade
When I fitted the Clark board I was told that 9.6v would blow it, hence the 7.2v battery. Had I fitted an Elmod board I would have been fine, but I was new to the game ame and not willing to spend the money.

Re: WSN T34 upgrade
A fully charged 7.2v battery puts out 8.4v, so if it goes too slowly on a charged one, so my guess is that it won't go any quicker on 9.6v?
I also seem to recall that the original battery had some weird arrangement where although a +/- came out of the battery to the motors, another pair of wires came out at least one pair of cells back, and these powered the turret etc.
HL gearboxes might be the way to go?

Re: WSN T34 upgrade
It's based on my recollection of how it first ran when I thought it was noticeably quicker, but that's just my memory.
This one is the later version and just has one battery connection. It looks like I may have to invest in a set of new gearboxes and fiddle around till they fit.

I the shafts are a different size you will need HL sprockets as well.

Re: WSN T34 upgrade
I drilled out the HL shafts, and press-fitted the WSN shafts into them.
