HL Gearbox replacement Question
Hi guys,
I am going to replace the stk HL GBs in my Sherman/Firefly conversion.
I know I can do a straight Ultimate II H+L 49mm swap. Can I use the M+L 49mm as well? The added space would be welcomed.
Will any of the Taigen V2 GBs work? It appears that their closest final drive axle length is 48mm.
TAI,
Barry

Jackalope just put Taigen gearboxes in a sherman firefly build, I hope he chimes in and shows photos for you.

Re: HL Gearbox replacement Question
Speaking of replacing gearboxes, how do you remove the metal sprocket from the shaft? Erik from Taigen has shown a method where you hammer down on the sprocket to loosen it up, but it hasn't worked at all on my Pershing. Anyone have alternative methods?
Re: HL Gearbox replacement Question
The drive sprocket for the track? There should be a allen bolt in the middle, undo that and the sprocket will come off. No hammer needed!

For the Pershing, the sprocket is made up of two parts. The outer part can easily be removed with the bolt you mentioned, but the second part is tightly fit to the shaft....

I still can't figger out how to post friggin' photos, so this will have to do. Click on this and you'll see some Taigen gearboxes in a Firefly conversion using the Heng Long lower hull.

I thought we had it covered for photos when mcevoyi posted a link to "postimages" but now when I try to use that my PC blocks it and says attackers are trying to get to me through the site so I won't go there. I'm still not sure if imgur does photo hosting but at least I can post a link to the photo for ya.
